Anybody plan on buying a 250cc 2 stroke MX bike (or two) before they completely stop making them?

IMO, 2 strokes are moto, and the most fun. No need to rip me for stating my opinion, I'm an old guy who grew up on 2 strokes

Yeah when I read the title of this thread I thought it would be about the no linkage monster.

i am not sure what i will do. bottom line is that i can't afford to buy new right now. to this point the used market is taking care of me and i expect that to carry on for the next several years.

i've got two of them right now that are both in great shape (one has less than 4 hours) so i should be good for the next while with these girls.

who knows what the future will bring (for any of us), i am not opposed to riding 4strokes ever again, two strokes are just where where my heart lies at this time.

i grew up on two strokes, 4 strokes elevated my riding due to several things that have been beaten to death on boards. after several years it became important to me to be able to ride a two stroke as well as the 4 stroke, so i bought a two stroke and after a few rides accomplished that goal and am very happy on the two stroke.

Most ALL of us grew up on 2 -strokes. Hello, the 4 strokes have not been around and dominant for 10 years. We all have ridden 2-strokes. I am said to see them go, but I just love to ride and race no matter what I am on. I will love it no matter what.

fair enough, i can leave the part about growing up on two strokes out in future posts, that seems pretty redundant in hindsight

however that wasn't the point of my post, the point is being able to ride two and four strokes equally.

another way to look at is:

if you and your competition are pretty equal on a 4stroke,(trading wins). can you or anyone switch to the "slower" bike and still win? in the end if you can, what does that make you?

it's a challenge and one that i took up on my own for my own reasons.

look, it really isn't about money and bikes, it is about skill and challenging yourself, in my mind.

it is important to me to be able to rip off the same lap times whether i am on a 4 stroke or a 2 stroke. 4 stokes are great and have enabled us to do great things with ease, can you (not a challenge to any one person but to everyone)switch back to a two stroke and do those same things???

in my case the answer is yes and that means something to me. that's it, bottom line.

That is the same thing I am always wondering! Can a rider that is bad ass ride a 2-stroke and kick all of the 4-strokers butts? I can't. I am not bad ass. I just love the 2-stroke KX 125!!!!!

A lot of people in the off road world switch back and forth, aka Kurt Caselli

I like the 4 stroke alot better, there easier to ride. Ive owned both, you actually have to ride and work a 2 stroke compared to the 4 stroke that you can pretty much set on the seat and turn the gas. With the new rules on being able to ride a 250 2 smoker on the lites classes and the open classes, i believe they will be much more marketable to the amature racer with limited funding. Its a world of difference to rebuild a 2 stroke .vs. a 4 stroke in price. just my 2 cents

You guys are fucking IDIOTS.

How many times have we PROVED - that 2-strokes are just as fast as 4-strokes in the hands of anyone but the most elite riders in the world?

the LARGE majority (except professional riders) won't ever be using a bike to it's full potential, so they will NEVER (in reality) notice any huge difference between the two (sans the power delivery). They will just be able to be slightly lazier on a 4-stroke. That's it folks, that's the difference for most amateur riders IMO.

Hell, even in the professional class, JS hung with RC on a 2-stroke. He hung with the GOAT (greatest rider of all time) on a 2-stroke...

Now with that said - do you REALLY think that in the hands of some idiot who's out being a weekend warrior - the difference will be so great they can't overcome it?

No.

Get a clue people - at the amateur level you can ride either and win. To think differently is the most retarded shit I've ever heard. If you truly feel you can't ride a 2-stroke and win at amateur levels - take your lazy ass to ron-ron. They're looking for a few good people with low IQ's.

LOL everything is just dandy.

in my shop sits 2 a/f 500's.

one newer one older.

they like 450's in the moring for breakfeast

LOL as long as service honda and my friend aj is welding up machines, bike choice is not an issue. now as I get older i may have to install a long pull throttle or something LOL but until I hit 60, it's all good.

I'd love to transform the ktm 300 into a more moto orientated bike.
I bought a 250t last year and plan on getting another in a year or two.
I'd like to see someone develop on though.
KTM and Yami are my only options and I'm a honda rider.
A KTM 300 sx would be the berries. Any oem that made one for that matter.
