I don't exactly agree with the rule. It is more than 3 laps but less than 90% completed. I feel this doesn't work for main events. Idk. Just my opinion.

Much more fair than making the leader line up next 19 other riders, he has already earned the race lead why should he have to work for it again. Single line should be used after the completion of lap on in my opinion

Out of curiosity, how would you suggest they do it?

It's only 3 laps in... just restart from the gate. Now if it were a heat race you should stagger start.

Seems like they just make it up as they go.

Yeah that should be a dead set restart for the full 20 laps... They do the single file for TV, yes I know it wasn't live but they'll want to appear to be consistent (Shithouse, but consistent)

Same reason they don't care about 49 second lap times, 15 minute mains is good for live tv

Why should the leaders be penalized because of a red flag due to injury?

If anything, it usually helps everyone but the leader as far as how close they were to the rider in the position ahead of them at the time of the red flag.

Why would it work better in a qualifying race than a main?

i like the rule, and agree that if they havent completed a full lap then it should go back to a full restart, no other motorsport restart races after a lap has been completed,

It really shouldn't even matter if they made a full lap or not, if it is injury related and there was no malfunction of the start process.

Was it fair for Millsaps who slowed or the riders who made passes on that 3rd lap when they took it from the 2nd? Is it fair for the leader who now has his lead chopped? You're right, they are penalizing them, so...

The MOST fair thing, is to give everyone a clean slate...

I thought they used the order that they were in when the red flag came out, not the finishing order of the lap before. That's the way it should be, the order they were in when the flag came out. There should be plenty of video and transponder info so that they can get it correct.

Again, haven't seen it, but reading tweets, race reports and interviews from after the race, no one knows where or why who was put where they were... someone does, we just don't know who.

It's fucked

It was the right call. Three laps had been competed. It's the fairest way to do it.

its better for the sponsors on SFR single file restarts , lot more tv time and photo opps are good , we see angles of the bikes/riders we normally dont get in full race mode

You would have to be new to this, until recently I don't remember ever having a start like this. Last two years, it seems like the new trend.

You couldn't be more wrong, on both counts lol. I've been involved in the sport for close to 40 years now and I can tell you one thing, this kind of restart has been done in off road motorcycle racing of all forms since well before I was into it. Just because you didn't see it on your tv, dosen't mean it wasn't happening all over the world.

Mind you, AMA Pro did indeed start finally using the staggered restart 2 years ago, but it's been in the rule book for many years. Get used to it, it's the fair and right way to restart a red flagged race. Kudos to AMA for doing it.
