Hello, Jack Borg is my uncle and I've found his name in one caption in one photo on a vintage photo post on here, and that's what has prompted me to join your community.

Unfortunately Jack is no longer with us, but I've been trying to find more information on his racing career. I KNOW he was one of the fast guy's of the era.... early 70's. Just don't know to what level. If anyone remembers the name, has any photos or any stories they remember, myself and my family would REALLY appreciate the information! He also may have gone by the first name "John", but the last name BORG is hard to forget...... Thank you so much for any help!

As a child there was also talk of magazine coverage. I have been unable to find anything relating to that though. Would anyone know where to search? I've spent hours looking over the years to no avail. I really appreciate any leads!

You should click on some of the names of the guys he raced with if you are not too familiar with the history of the sport. Many of those he was in the mix with were or went on to be national and even world champions. Some very elite company he competed with. Obviously one bad dude on a dirt bike. The Racer X Vault is definitely a treasure trove of info that cross links every direction imagineable.

I will do that. A lot of the names I do recognize. I think a lot of his notoriety was from his amateur years coming up as a fast youngster, but he came up with some of the best, I know that. He was actually younger than he stated by several years just to be able to race in the classes he did. Without getting into to much detail, from what I understand the pressure, and environment of the early pro motocross racer was just something that he couldn't get a handle on and ultimately led to him quitting and basically was the catalyst for a tough road ahead after MX, having had such high hopes in such an exciting emerging sport at a very young age.

Post up a request on Marks Motorcycle Swapmeet. A huge source of knowledge searches that site for stuff daily.

Hi,
Jack was a hero to me ! He lived in Carlton Mi. when I knew him not far from where I grew up. My sister went to high school with his sister Allison. For my birthday one year my dad paid Jack to come and ride for the afternoon with my friend and I, we were aw struck ! Later, I was lucky to accompany him to several races, mostly flat track though. If you like you can email me, I have way more stories and information then I can type.

Hi Nathan, I knew your Uncle as he raced with my father back in the early 70's in Michigan. He was just coming up as my Dad's racing days were ending. He was a nice guy and very exciting to watch him race!! If you go to google and enter Jack Borg AMA,there are copies of the magazine that list the races, class and names (including Jack & my father Herbert Gilmer). I also thought you might obtain more info from the AMA on Jack. Please let me know if you would like to contact my Dad as he knew Jack very well. We were both saddened to hear of his passing. Good luck on your search!
