I do agree with this but only to a point. I know that speed & HP are all relivent but here in New England we have sand track tracks with huge hills & other tracks with big uphills or long starts & you need HP on these types of tracks or you're never going to get a strart or you're going to have a 450 ride right by you going up a long uphill. Our dirt is very soft here & you need some extra ponies if you want to run up front on a 2 stroke. You just have to level the playing field is all :-)
You bring up a good example of where extra HP is key. Not sure if the guy is racing or not, if he is he may want to keep that in mind.

I say practice your corners and get your corner speed up and that just makes catching and passing the fourstrokes that much better!

And BTW Digger, your bike is a thing of beauty!

ATF is actually very good for your clutch & bad for the tranny & that's we mix it 50/50 with 5 weight motor oil. I buy 2 gallons & mix them together & change it every 2 rides & it's very cheap this way. I use the Chrysler ATF. My bike shifts like butter & the clutch works awesome. I learned the ATF thing in the 90s from a factory Suzuki mechanic. He said they ran it straight & changed it every ride. I've been using it since 99 & have had great success & no issues at all with it.
ive had great results in running straight ATF and changing it every ride. i worked at a trans shop so i just go there after every ride and pump it straight from the big tank. its a pretty thick Dex/Merc 3 blend that costs about a 70 cents a gallon at cost, and with over 500 hours on the stock trans in my 450, it still looks brand spankin new!

I'm not a racer as much of a weekend warrior on my 02 rm 125. I love so many things about the bike, i'm not sure if i'll ever have the emotional capability of being able to let it go! As for power goes... I'm looking for that extra grin factor, even though every time i get off my buck twenty five i have a priceless smile on my face.

needless to say, i'm considering my next move up in the dirt bike world and it basically comes down to three choices. But the more and more reviews i read, and customer based bias argumentation. I'm finding myself to lean towards either a 250t, or a 450. Only due to hearing from so many riders and racers that 250fours are ticking time bombs. And financially speaking, i am in no place to be keeping up with the 50hour maintenance with a Kawi(Which would be the only 250 i would ever consider as for power reasons) Never the less, as i hear this maintenance is required and i'm not sure about stepping to a 250f because of that very reason.. Now i'm sure i just stirred the pot for guys who ride 250fs and love them for the flickablity and what not, but as i stated before. I'm just a weekend warrior, rarely hit the track with some dudes who ride invitationals, and mainly just trails.

So here i am. I've always ridden a two stroke, although have experienced some 250fs, and they're great and all. I just don't like home much time you have to spend making sure they're in spec. As vice versa, with a 450 i hear they run, and hold up to spec if not ragged and raped like most racers do. I don't ride dunes, and i don't ride the rev limiter. So durability shouldn't be an issue. However, as far as price goes on these 450fs now days, it's pretty crazy. And with the new technology that's involved, and all the bugs being worked out,, i'm not sure if that's the best choice for me. Taking in to play i want to throw my leg over the seat, and BRAPPP. Which brings me to the whole 250t debate. I love my RM and would have no problem investing in another one if i could find the right deal on a said price. Which most 250ts are beat, and not well maintained because these goons think they can just fill em' with mixed gas and go.

So i've been looking into buying a brand new Ktm, which i'm more lenient towards over the Yami, since i have never owned a Yamaha, and i'm not that familiar with them. Now don't get me wrong Yamaha riders, i'm sure they are great bikes. but i have a 02 Ktm 125 in my garage and i absolutely love the quality traits it holds. So i'm more or so convinced i should stick with looking into a 2013 250sx. Hopefully i can get my hands on a leftover next year, or maybe just go with a 14'.

But as for now that should do, i appreciate all the feedback y'all have given me. I appreciate every bit. It helps me learn something new everyday logging onto this website.

If only i could afford to have all the four strokes i want, and my ring dingers! Maybe some day... Brap*

Why not consider a KTM SX 150? I think you would be shocked to see how much power that thing makes compared to your RM 125. In own a '13 KTM SX 250 and already thought that that was a big step up and I came off a hopped up 150. Going from an RM 125 to a new KTM 250 would essentially step you up from 37(?) HP to 51.

I owned a 2008 SX 144 and a 2011 SX 150 previously and in my opinion they are the perfect step up from a 125, unless you are too heavy or too tall for the small bore.

I'm a leightweight. Since i'm 22, and already tipping 6'1, and have a few years of growing left to do, i'm more into the 250ts. I would consider it, but if i was going to, i'd rather run a 144 kit in either on of the bikes i have in the garage right now. I'm in an absolute bind right now. Don't know which way to go. I guess time will tell. Maybe a bike will just fall out of the sky into my driveway and i won't have to worry about it anymore. Haha. So many rad bikes out there. It's hard to choose.

Must agree with digger on this one, including that trick ass tank! Damn, you don't see those to often. What Year??? I have to agree to a certain extent with pete24 though..

It's not always about how much power you have, if you don't know how to use it. That's why i have to love the 2t, they help you learn how to squeeze the most power out of your bike, while carrying it among the track.

However, those Ktm's do shit and get. The Dyno does not lie.

i agree that more power isnt always better, but usually more power allows you to move it around to your own personal taste without losing as much as you would if you started with a weaker engine.

if you have a 45hp bike and a 50hp bike, you can stand to lose 5hp on top from the 50hp bike and help widen the power band, or offset some of that power down low and still come ahead or break even with the 45hp bike and with a power spread you may like better. just my opinion.

Ive been racing offroad for a good while and for me have found the 30/35hp range is where im happy, I'm 200lb and race at A level CC/HS and enduros. I'll be honest and tell you the 250ts and 450fs are just to much for me in the woods. that YZ is bad azz though.lol
