what does your spark plug look like? It is pretty satisfying to do some testing and come up with the jetting that works best for you

I am looking for some SoCal jetting too, on the 2013 model.

The stock jetting bogs the bottom end bad. I am going to try MXA's jetting this weekend.

if it is bogging on bottom the first thing I would do is lean the pilot, if that doesn't fix raise the clip in the needle, still bogs try a leaner needle. going one or two steps either rich or lean is pretty safe. nothing to lose by giving it a try

you won't be able to get it to run super clean on the bottom with any of the supplied needles. If you are mainly riding moto this is not usually a problem as you don't spend any time down that low. I used mine to trail ride too and found that the Suzuki NECJ needle allowed the bike to run really clean down low and all the way through for that matter. It's not a secret, many, many people use that needle in their late model 250SX's.

I race the jdays and am usually in the top end. The bike doesnt bog or anything and it runs good. but when i do have to lug it it loads up and sounds like it is going to foul. but i can really ring it out with this setup. i want something that i can ride down low and really hold it open

Yes, you should definitely be able to run that needle year round. Stock pilot, the NECJ needle on the 3rd setting & a 172-175 main jet. I lived in Millbury for 30yrs.

With the NECJ, I went back and forth between the 40 and 42 pilot. I ended up sticking with the 42 as the 40 felt kinda urgent if you get what I mean. I was not anywhere near what Digger runs for a main, but I will admit I don't rev a bike out too much either. I think I was at 168m. I did also switch to a 7 slide eventually. This made the low end even cleaner, but only the tiniest bit. Do run good fuel if you can. I use avgas, 100LL and always have. It is not the way to make max power, but it is clean and consistent and most importantly free from the crap additives in pump gas. You could make more power using a low octane race fuel, unless you are going to bump your compression in which case you could go for the higher octane race fuel.

ok sweet. i just want as much as i can get out of my bike without getting cylinder work done because i cannot afford race fuel. where do you get the avgas? and is it super expensive?

Any small airport will sell it to you, just find one and ask. It's hardly any more than pump hi test these days, think I paid around 4.58/ gallon Saturday.
