Or something Jesus maybe he better stop riding if he's that out there lol
I thought the same thing, plenty of time to swerve either way.

It was heavily watered, because that's what you do before you disc the track.

I put this one on the rider. Obviously there's no way to know for sure. Pure speculation. Hurts to watch either way.

Really?

OK maybe the guy didn't do himself any favors riding wise but when is it ever OK to have a tractor crossing the track on the backside of a jump?

It looked to me like the track was closed. The tractor driver shouldn't have crossed there, but if the track was closed he probably figured it didn't matter where he crossed. Like someone already said, he should have saw the tractor at two seconds into the video. Like I said, it's pure speculation. Very few people know for sure.

Hmmmmm, track may have been closed for watering and just started back, the 2 guys do leave together.
When you see the tractor at the beginning it looks like it's off on the side to me.

Defintely a lot to speculate about, only thing for sure is that hurt, probably cleaned out the dude on the tractor pretty good too.

Yeah it looks to me like right when the GoPro rider could have saw the tractor, the guy riding next to him slowed down quite a bit, indicating to me that he did see the tractor. It looked to me like if he hadn't cased the tabletop a little bit, he'd have been able to go left of it. You can see right when he tries to turn left his front tire bounced back into the air.

It's also hard to judge from just the video alone on whether he could swerve or not. You lose a certain amount of definition with any piece of film... whether there's a slight off camber on the hill, how bumpy it is, what's going on with the bike etc.

Bottom line - I'm sure if he could've dodged then he would've. Probably didn't want to slide out and end up under a 2 ton tractor!

This is why on your first lap of practice you should roll the jumps and have a good look around. Not that he was going that fast anyway, but clearly he was going too fast for this situation.

If you watch carefully it looks to me like he lands on top of the table and then bounces back into the air as the landing starts to drop away. It's that bounce that means he is not able to turn to try and avoid the tractor and by the time he wheels touch down again it's too late to take any action.

@Tdeath21, the tractor wasnt crossing the track. He was turning round to go back up and harrow it or whatever the attachment is.

The incident could have been worse if it was a larger, more modern tractor with a cab.

There is probably a good chance he did stop riding after that.

Wow! Usually I don't comment on this kind of stuff but that right there is any riders biggest fear. To me the track looked closed for maintenance, the track had perfect discing in most spots and on other spots it looked liked they were flooding the track for it to later be good. Sucks either way, if he had his elbows up he woulda been able to react faster to steering right or left but elbows down like that only leave you going toward what your looking at. Hope he recovered.

Really sad situation all the way around. In 25 yrs of announcing I have seen some unbelievable stuff. An ambulance crossed the track on a blind jump and a racer hit it broadside. He survived, but was messed up for a while. that is why I always try to make sure there are no vehicles on the track when racers are out. The list goes on. At an Am Arena-cross day In Niagara falls a racer whiskey throttled on the long straightaway hit the barrier the bike rode up the fencing and went airborne. It landed in the bleachers 9 rows up.Hit a spectator, but not bad enough to do damage. Not a big fan of snow fencing as a track barrier because they don't stop much. A kx 125 was ghost ridden and hit the fence, went airborne and landed on the hood of a ford ranger. Throttle was stuck between the windshield and hood wide open. needless to say the truck didn't fair so well as the kx bucked and chucked all over the hood. And lastly at a three wheel national years ago in Little Valley Ny a TriZ250 lost its racer and went wide open into the snow fencing. Again instant airborne and flew about 80ft and landed in the back of a pick up truck that moments ago was full of young kids. Bad that stuff like that happens. Good (hopefully) that we learn from this stuff and continue to work on racer/track/spectator safety. Hope the kid and all parties are ok.
