So who really does do the heads, cranks, and transmissions on the non factory bikes? I know that there are a lot of people that say the mechanics do it all but when in the heck do the have time?

Frenchie at C4MX seemed to be working 16hr. days since Thanksgiving every time I saw him. His shop is about 3 minutes from mine.

I thought XTrac did some gearbox work for PC.

Another long time gearbox supplier is Quaife
http://www.quaife.co.uk/

DelWest is up near me in Valencia for valves, if you go in the lobby they have a little trophy from Yamaha thanking them in there supplying valves for Valentino Rossi's M-1.

Akrapovic supplies the skid plates for Factory Suzuki (at least they used too), and they still look the same to me.

Pankl for cranks (F-1 supplier) and they own CP-Carillo Rods, as seen on Millsaps scooter
http://www.pankl.com/Aftermarket.542.0.html

There's more if you want. Then there's guys like me that make prototype, one off, and short-run production parts for teams and aftermarket companies.

Here's the pictures of the Crank Works guys, pretty impressive.

I think you'll find a lot of places will do specific things, head work, gearbox, friction reducing coatings, etc. It takes a special guy to be good at all things. One of the guys I remember from the old days as an all around guy, welding, machining, dyno work, etc. was Dave Bush at Kendick Engineering. I personally think he's a dick, but I don't let personal feelings get in the way of being impressed by someones abilities. Oh and I forgot professional photographer too, as well as two stroke and four stroke engine and exhaust development.
