i'd like to buy a small trail bike that can handle a 185lb rider, isn't high off the ground, and has some decent performance--just to dive around in the forest and pretend to be a kid again.

i'm looking at either the DR-Z125L or the Honda CRF230, but i'm not seeing any tests of these bikes anywhere, much less sidexside comparisons. anyone have experience with either of these machines? are they only for kids or are they also marketed/designed with adults in mind? would love to see a shootout between them, but maybe they aren't as comparable as i'm thinking?

I have a Yam ttr 125 that we use sometimes for working on the trails. It's okay with heavier suspension for playing around a bit on smooth tight trails. Get in some rocks and logs on the trails and the smaller wheels and everything else are not enough.
If you end up riding with other people your going to want a full size serious dirt bike. Look for a KTM 200 2-stroke or something like that. Then check out Hidden Falls East of Austin.

If you used to be an MXer, you're not likely to be satisfied with the 125 class 4stroke trail bikes. The 230's from Honda and Yamaha are better, but much heavier.

For about the same weight, maybe even a little less, look for a Kawi KDX200. They quit making them in 2006, but have a loyal following, and there's a ton of parts and tips available. They can be ridden mellow, but when the mood strikes, (and you KNOW it will), you can giddy up a little too.
