Just wondering if anyone has good feedback on these 2 helmets? The 7 Series Oneal and I believe the 350 or 450 Scott helmet. Ive always wondered why no one wears oneal helmets if they're ECE and Dot Approved..

Any feedback on the better helmet would help. Thanks

I don't recommend the Oneal. Had the series 8 last year and my son had a moderate crash. Should have been fine but ended up with major concussion. We have since moved to Shoei and they are lighter and offer much better protection. While we did not have the technical instruments to measure the difference, seems like the Oneal had very little give on the interior foam and padding. Don't have a point of view on te Scott.

I agree with mx-4-2. Shoei is a great choice. While O'neal and other apparel manufacturers should stick to making pants and jerseys and leave the helmet making to the helmet makers. No offense Oneal, you make nice gear. Arai is a solid choice as well. Dot and ECE Approval is not good enough. Only a reputable, longstanding reputation is.

As with everything, some manufacturers meet their respective standards, others exceed them. I go with the companies that exceed standards

depending on fit either Shoei, Bell or Arai...would not ride or let any of riders I'm associated wear anything else..although the new C6? the Geico teams wearing sounds pretty sick with its new cushion

also look at the AGV. Have had mine for sometime and the fit
is excellent, the look is cutting edge, its super lite. Plus they are
like the shoei, n that the offer different shell size's.

Ill try to keep this brief, as this is a huge deal for me, and I have seen the bad effects both ways.

My personal feeling is to buy a good quality helmet, but also one you can afford to replace if it takes a knock. For instance, the whole time I raced I wore Fly helmets. The reason for this was simple. They are good, solid, quality helmets, that can be purchased at a good price. That way, in the event of a crash involving any sort of shot to the head I have no problem taking out the washable liner and using it as a spare for the new one that I ordered. A helmet is good for one shot. Thats it. Once you have taken a shot to the head that helmet no longer protects you the way it was meant to. Ive seen people take a shot to the head in a brand new shoei, get a mild concussion, and instead of doing what they should, and throwing the helmet in the trash, they continue wearing a helmet that no longer protects them correctly.

Another point I would like to make here, is that DOT and SNELL specifications are created for street bike helmets, not necessarily the best for MX, so exceeding a specification thats created to keep your brains from spilling onto the highway when you fall at 65 on the highway really doesnt seem to be a big benefit for MX. The protection needs are different for the 2 styles of motorcycling.

You can get a really nice mid-high level lid for a great price if
you dont have to have the "hot" new colorway or style, same with
most all that stuff, why buy shit @ off the rocker prices, when u can buy
the previous year for 1/2 price?!
