Now its starting to get chilly across the nation my minds turned to snow. As a kid i used to still ride for a while once it snowed ( under 2 ft. ) it all eventually would pack down or brush away to bare frozen ground. Leaving a crazy challenge finding traction and balance.. absolutely loved the feeling. Any one else ever have to experience of shredding powder on a bike?

get a set of studded tires. works well if the snow is less then 8 inches or so. incredible traction on bare frozen ground. trelleborg factory studded tires are the best. 4 to 500 per tire. you need a good rear tire. on the front 3/8 sheet metal hex heads work very well. they fly out when used on the rear.

Being in Canada, Ive been riding in the snow and ice racing my entire life. Ice racing or riding whooped out snowmobile trails is a hoot.

If you ride on hard pack you don't need studs, but the Trelleborgs work good in shallow show and frozen ground. Sheet metal screws wont last long once they contract dirt. They are a lot of made-for-motorcycle studs available but none of them are meant to be used on frozen dirt.

I've ridden on frozen lakes with studded tires, there is a surprising amount of traction available. I had a set of ice tires for my old CR500, they went with the bike when I sold it. I wouldn't mind building another. Kenda makes an 18" rear that everybody uses, just get one of those with a couple packages of kold kutter screws and you're in business!

It snowed here today. I have had my share of crashes on frozen ground, i'll pass on winter riding.
