I started on this project a couple weeks ago and I think it's about time i share. I have a 1998 KTM 50 Junior Pro that I'm fixing up. It was my childhood bike that I got when I was 6. My dad gave it to our neighbors a couple years ago and I when I went over their house and saw the horrible condition it was in, I took it back and now I'm restoring it.

Also I want to ask you guys, what are some absolute necessities to do when fixing up an old bike? This bike hasnt been worked on in about 5 years. Besides cleaning everything, Im going to rebuild the carb and put new gaskets on the top end. Should I new piston rings and stuff too? Should I get all new cables or just clean the old ones? Lastly should I get new brake shoes or just rough up the old drum brakes? Thanks

Clean and reuse everything possible to get it up and running...unless your budget supports replacing everything you want in the beginning. Once you get it going you can replace things as you see the need. Engine wise I would definitely do rings, probably piston as well as those things run a million rpms. Go through the clutch and clean it thoroughly, what a mess those can be when they don't get fresh oil every 15 minutes of ride time. We had a 98 model for the youngest son, then a 2001 model.

Might want to have a Stator and Ignition handy too. Had an 02 Pro Senior, if the clutch is out of whack at all, it'll make some serious heat and you'll be cooking it. It will seem like the carb is needing adjustment, more that likely a stator.

So for the engine I ordered a new high compression top end gaskets, New piston and rings, engine cover(current is melted), and a carb rebuild kit. Other parts I ordered are: air filter, grips, lever-perch sets, tubes(tires later on), I'm gonna cut my own graphics, and I'm thinking about a complete bike bolt kit. I found a generic KTM 72-piece one on ebay for $30. Thoughts? I'm I missing anything important?

And sorry about no pics my pc is saying my phone pics are "corrupted" so I can't upload them now.
