Herlings mentioned that testing on his 350 for the up coming Nations he has been consistently 2 seconds a lap quicker on the 350 compared to the 250 he's been competing on this season. I imagine hes been doing said testing in the sand tho.....

I honestly feel it depends on the track. For some tracks I feel they'll be faster, but on other tracks such as tight tracks they'll be around the same speed.

Tomac's lap times go down for sure. He rides his 250 like a 450.

Barcia- probably.

Baggett is an awesome 250 rider- much like Lampson was an awesome 125 rider. You know how they keep their weight on the rear wheel for traction and rail the lines that keep momentum. I'm sure Baggett will be good on a 450, too. But you know how some guys do more with the advantage of a lighter bike over the advantage of more power?

Great question. Hard to say about the lap times - but I think the likelihood of a Baggett win in a Barcia/Baggett/Tomac race would be much higher on 250s than 450s.

We get it, Herlings is fast in the SAND, in EUROPE. Not the question asked. He wouldn't make a 450 SX Main for what it counts.

Barcia and Tomac will replicate what Canard did in his first 450 year, or better.

Bagget is questionable in SX and unknown on a 450.

Logic says they are making time in the corners in comparison to the 450s, so no they don't go down.

He only stated that the quicker laptimes were possibly in the sand, so its probably not a true indication of his much faster he is on a bigger bike. No need to get your knickers in a knot

Yeah many things come into play, but my point is that not everybody can ride a 450 as well as they can a 250. Its always been this way, some guys used to be pretty wicked on 125's and could never handle the 500's. Doesn't really make them any less of a rider in my book. The class structure in effect doesn't appear to limit teams from campaigning the 250f in the 450 class but nobody seems to do it even though it appears they could possibly post as equal or better results by doing so. I'd guess it has a lot to do with the manufacturer's preventing it from happening. Of course not every team would have the financial means to fund a full season 250f effort and for them it makes much more sense to go with a 450f bike.

The whole class structure I feel is just a major concession to the manufacturer's in the sport to provide a format to showcase the products their selling. Maybe its always been this way and I'm too stupid to think something otherwise could be better. Its apparent though that a hell of a lot of guys get hurt trying to transition to the bike bikes, some never do. Thats got to severly limit any mainstream sponsors from focusing on the sport. But to me, as a fan, I think I'm not getting to watch the racing I could see. I mean who wouldn't have absolutely loved to see Stewart line his 125 up in the then 250 class. Who wasn't thrilled to watch Villopoto smoke the world on his 250f at the MXdN. With an open class it could become more commonplace. Their appears to several 250 guys right now that could mix it up well with the 450's if they were allowed to.
