So I thought Motoconcepts whole idea behind the black and white bike was to not necessarily support Suzuki colors since they weren't receiving support from them............I found it kind of funny/odd that Mike Alessi's tag read Motoconcepts Suzuki. Thoughts?

The poeple who organize the press conference did not follow the teams lead with what they call themselves. It's just the same as during the TV broadcast they always say Alessi is on "the Motoconcepts Suzuki." It is habit to toss the bike brand in and MC is the first team recently I can recall that has tried to distance itself from a manufacturer.

A lttle too much curve to the bill, but I dig that hat Mike is wearing.

This is sure to get the whole gambit of responses, along with the BoobyM "Motoconcepts afugginmazing and shit gold!"

Personally, I think the whole thing is retarded. Mike G just basically took his ball and went home when he felt that Suzuki wasn't giving him what he felt he deserved. I can understand the frustration and emotion behind that move, but when you're working with a group of people (Mike, Tony, Vince) that have not just burned, but rather torched, bridges in the industry, is it really wise to start burning those bridges as a whole team?

If I'm Suzuki in 2011, I'm thinking that MA is on his way out and I'm not going to throw a single penny into that sinking ship. If I'm Mike G in 2011, I'm thinking, "Fine, they don't believe in us? We'll just go ahead and prove them wrong." And MotoConcepts has done just that. However, if MCR had acted a bit more like professionals (read: adults) they would have run the Suzuki logo and the yellow plastics in hopes that some day Suzuki sees the fact that they've put together a top class team and decide to jump on board. I understand that MCR doesn't need the financial backing, and they're having a good time "sticking it to the man," but their pride is undoubtedly hindering their efforts. Maybe it's not financial backing that they need, but rather the factory parts that Suzuki could have thrown their way.

So, instead of acting like a butt hurt child, Mike G should have taken a chapter out of Reed's 2010 off season moving into the 2011 season. Reed didn't get any support, but gave praise to Honda for creating a great machine, kept sporting the colors, and eventually proved that he was worth every penny that Factory Honda was willing to invest (be it financial or parts), and is now riding his own factory scooter under his own awning playing by his own rules. That's how it's done.

The funny thing to top it all off is that MCR isn't really sticking it to the man at all. Everyone knows Alessi rides a Suzuki - between commentators mentioning his Suzuki, the Suzuki tag next to his name on the running order, or his name tag at the press meetings. So MCR burned a very critical bridge, and gained nothing from it.

All that said, Mike G is clearly a very successful business man as he has the money to spend on all of this - I guess I'm just not sure how he's been so successful. By his behavior towards Suzuki (a potential sponsor), and his rider's behavior (Vince Freise), were I a sponsor I wouldn't touch that team with a 10 foot pole.

Grieby, you said that perfectly. I haven't been able to figure out how he can be so successful in his other buisness if he is doing this one in a way that most would say is beyond completely wrong. It's not my team or money so I don't have say in it. Mike had a great year and Vince did a great job of causing drama, which sadly got MCR more exposer in a bad way.

I dont think there is much to be gained by courting Suzuki. I dont think they have much to offer as compared to a Team Honda which has the resources to help a private effort like Reed.

Bottom line, besides some free stock parts I dont think Suzuki could afford to help MCR out due to budget contraints.

The thing I dont understand is why Genova doesnt push the Leisure Concepts spas more. I guess spas and sx/mx just dont mix? Selling spas to mxers cant be as off the wall as trying to sell dog food ( Canadae)

Looking from the outside in, Genova seemed to do the right thing in hiring Tony as team manager instead of keeping 'ol what's his nameSmile

Not necessarily. None of us were privy to the sponsor meetings and contract discussions that I am aware of. Suzuki might have told them there was no fucking chance in hell that Suzuki would help them out for all we know.

I'm still remembering Suzuki cutting contingency after a bunch of people had bought and put bikes on the track several years back. Suzuki told them to go fuck themselves basically. I still have visions of baby blue plastics and white rims on the CCRider bikes.

Moto Concepts chose to distance themselves from the Suzuki name and as far as I am concerned MXSports shouldn't keep throwing it in there whether at a press conference or on national tv. I see that as somewhat disrespectful to a team that brings a lot to the sport.

OOhhh man, dont get me started on the stupid fad of tucking your ears into your hat. Every time i see one of my favorite riders doing this i let out a "oh God, not you too" to the tv/puter screen.

You know who the first rider I ever saw tuck his ears into his hat was???? Doug Henry!!!! Yeah, thats right, a nerdy east coast guy. I love DH, but Id never consider him a bro-fashion maven

To me it makes perfect sense to NOT run the Suzuki logo and yellow plastics. If they were to run yellow plastics and Suzuki logos, Suzuki is getting free advertisement, so what motivation does Suzuki have to help out, whether it be parts($) or money? Give MCR some parts or whatever they need, and I'm sure they'll gladly throw a yellow front fender and a Suzuki logo on the bike. At that level, with that amount of exposure, I wouldn't run anyone's colors, logo, or anything of the sort unless they were paying me, whether it be parts, money, or whatever. And I would make sure the announcers said "Mike Alessi on that MotoConcepts bike," leave Suzuki out of it. I can understand why Suzuki wouldn't help out with the bridges the Alessi's have burnt, the money I'm sure they're spending on JS7, and they're iffy financial situation, but I wouldn't be running their colors or logos for FREE in the hopes that one day they would help out. I wouldn't even run the gold rims because they're associated with Suzuki. I own a Suzuki, so I'm not knocking them. You sponsor the team, you get your colors/logos on the bike, it's just business.

As for Reedy, let's face it, he's on a different level than MA800, and therefore has more negotiating power. Also, he hasn't really burnt any bridges with Honda like the Alessi's have with Suzuki. I remember hearing/reading that CR22 picked the Honda because he felt it was the next best bike to the Suzuki. So maybe Reed burnt a bridge with Suzuki, or knew Suzuki didn't have the $$ to put towards his effort in starting TwoTwo Motorsports, and went with someone he KNEW would help out.

Although Chad was a little vocal about some of that, we weren't in those meetings either. And those bridges had not been previously burnt either.

im a fan of MA800. but i think there is a big differnce in marketing value and championship contention when it comes to Reed.

I'm betting if Chad ran black plastics and then went to Honda with his lenghty list of championships, podiums, top 5's, etc and was like "Look, if you guys give me some factory parts, I'll run red plastics, Honda logos, mention you in podium speeches, etc etc and be a championship contender for you guys. All I need is a little help with some parts." My money says they would've gladly helped out, because who else did they have that was a championship contender? TC41 was the only guy they had, and to my understanding Chad didn't get the parts/support from Honda until after Trey's crash. My guess is, if Trey wouldn't have got hurt, Reedy wouldn't have gotten Honda support. He would have been running those red plastics for FREE. Honda had a championship contender and he got hurt, so they chose to help Reed in the hopes that he would bring them a championship.

Where do you think Chad would be if he followed that logic? My money would bet on his bike NOT being a factory bike.
But how would we know?

Maybe MCR & Suzuki already had discussions to that point which led to a big 'no help from us, period' from Suzuki?

Maybe CR & Honda discussions up to then led to a 'we'll see what happens with our budget & your team progress' from Honda?

And how do we know that MCR isn't ready with some yellow parts & Suzuki stickers if Suzuki were to find some budget for them?

Myself, I'm not sure about all the Friese drama, but I'm super-pumped on the season that MA & MCR have had - and I sure as hell have no grounds to say they should change anything with their program.

If you want factory support you play by the rules they've made. If you want to do your own thing fine, but don't expect to ever get factory support.

The only thing I hope is that in 5-10 years if they're not around we don't hear him cry about not having factory support because they decided to go this way.

I seriously doubt it just comes down to "they aren't supporting MCR because they don't run Suzuki colors/logos." I think the reason they don't support them is because they have a grudge against the Alessis, don't have the budget, or any of several other issues. If someone pays you, you run their colors. If they don't pay you, you don't run them. JS7 isn't running a big Tide logo on his bike and telling everyone how great it is at removing dirt stains from his gear because they MIGHT pay him for it one day.

To me, this is bad business logic by Suzuki. There is absolutely no reason a consistent podium guy should not have factory equipment. There is a win-win solution to this situation and Suzuki has opted to remove value from their operation and MC's operation.

I agree with Newmann's comments that it would help out a lot to hear what, if anything has been offered from Suzuki and if MC rejected or countered any offer. I guess speculation is why Vital exists though. . .

But what about h and h? They sort of did the same thing with kawi by not running green on the bikes hardly and openly saying they aren't getting good support.

Now Suzuki must have some money to give cause h and h Are supposedly switching to Suzuki and after complaining about kawi I would think they would not switch to Suzuki unless they were getting. More support or maybe even a factory bike which is just me guessing.
