Jullien Assange Asylum....the UK threatening to violate the Vienna Convention

Edited Date/Time 8/28/2012 5:30pm
I dont know if any of the lemmings here have noticed or not...

But the UK military has been threatening to storm the Ecuadorian Embassy for the last 12 hrs.

Hey Brits, is this getting any coverage in your neck of the woods? Or how 'bout in America? Im interested to know. Because this is a rather big deal.

Basically, Jullien Assange was granted asylum in Ecuador and now he's holed up in the Embassy and the UK is about to kick down the doors.

Gotcha.

Thankyou for responding. I commend you and the other Brit's who are disgusted. Whether you are their protesting or not doesnt matter to me. The fact that you are aware is what is important.

Yeah, Britain is getting hammered by this. Thanks to the internet's fast moving social media, this whole event seems to be spreading quite fast and their is no pulling the wool over everyone's eyes on this. Everything the "powers that be" try just makes them look worse.

If Assange is extradited, the mob is going to be pissed. If he is let free, who exactly is going to care? It's amazing that governments cant seem to figure out whom works for whom.

Events like this are just exposing more and more how fucked up the worlds governments are. It's giving credibility to Wikileaks and the whole Occupy movement. People are just pissed off and everywhere we look we're given more reason to be pissed.

And with the mass movements to try and censor the internet, it just throws more fuel on the fire.

It's crazy times we are living in and I feel like we're headed towards some tipping point where everyone finally snaps.

There is always stuff happening...you just do not hear about it.

I think the 60's was the craziest in my era. Maybe you were not around then?

Agreed. But these days we do hear about it. That is the difference between now and the 60s I think. Information travels so fast the world seems like such a smaller place. It seems like its harder for them to hide the bullshit but then again, this technology also makes it easier to hide the bullshit so maybe youre right, its a wash.

It may not be 60s crazy yet but do you think it is headed that way?

As for Assange,

The UK is not going to storm the Embassy now. But they are saying they still must arrest and extradite him due to the charges made against him.

Ummmm....... No charges have been made against him, even in Sweden.

This whole deal reeks so bad. The main stream media look like a bunch of pawns.

Don't worry the media here is giving this full coverage even to the extent we're aware that the "sexual assault" offence which he is wanted for questioning in Sweden is not even a crime here!

Without anybody saying anything, everybody here knows who is behind all of this, and where he will end up (for a VERY long time) if he gets extradited to Sweden. It's truly disgusting that our government is following orders like this.

100% agree with paleblue.

I hope he somehow gets to Ecuador, it's disgusting.

Why not? They have fought two wars of aggression: Afghanistan and Iraq. They have supplied arms to rebels in Libya and Syria. The assage case is more like a parking ticket.
Then the dhs is stockpiling hollow point ammunition. Illegal in international warfare but apparently not for use against their own citizens.

Already replied to that accusation elsewhere! I refuse to accept personal responsibilty for the actions of the filty rich 200 years ago. How much responsibility do you feel for the genocide carried out against Native americans? Very little is the sensible answer. If it was happening now and you condoned it? different story.

Anyway, the British government is acting as the U.S.'s poodle (again!) over this. What hold they have ove the Swedes I can't begin to guess! Promising a huge order for Volvo's maybe.....

I agree with you PB, Im not going to hold YOU personally responsible for your countries crimes. Youve proved via your posts here that you, like most every Brit that contributes in these discussions, are very aware and non-supportive of the BS your government conducts.

But while I will give you a pass, I wont necessarily agree that you are our poodle. I think its far more likely that we are your pawn. After all, Ive never seen a photo of your queen bowing before our president whereas I have seen pics of our presidents bowing to your queen.

Personally, Im not sure if the borders and nationalities even matter anymore. Corporations are the real nations running things. Starting with the banks. And they know no nationality.

A plague killed off most of the Native Americans before we even got here. Try again.

The Native Americans handled the Vikings just fine. Without the plague we probably never would've settled/beaten the indians. They where so numerous that ships sailing by described them in the hundreds of thousands with no place safe to land.

People give us a lot more blame, and a lot more credit than we deserve as far as settling here and getting rid of the Natives.

They sure as hell didn't handle Columbus, the Spaniards, and English very well. You might find this interesting:

The mindset of the British Empire generations was completely different to the average person of today. You can't judge those actions with a modern eye any more than you can the actions of the 8th century Vikings - it was a different time, a totally different world. Plus, to be frank, I don't believe that everything that came out of the empire was terrible. Sorry, I realise that isn't a popular opinion amongst many contributors in this one thread but there it is. It's easy to look back now but at the time if we hadn't done it, then someone else would.

Regardless, however you feel about the rights and wrongs of something like that, it's not worth carrying a chip on your shoulder towards modern Brits. I certainly don't feel a need to tell Ken Roczen what the Nazis did because, obviously, it's got sweet F A to do with him.

But where I do agree with Jabroni and others is in the two faced, underhand actions of the modern British government. I don't like the way things are going with the world and to me this Assange case is just another injustice in a long list of injustices where we're (Britain) once again blatantly on the wrong side. I can assure you they don't act on my behalf.

Jullien Assange should be given the death penalty if for no other reason than he looks like Bill Maher.

I was specifically replying to your use of "here". The British government is into a lot of the same shit our government is (much of which I disagree with and also am reminded of by foreigners). It's not like our governments don't fuck with a lot of the planet.

No, I don't hold anything against you personally. Just as there are many Americans that don't agree with our government, I'm sure the same goes for citizens in any country and their respective governments.

History does say a lot about a culture. Aggressive cultures such as yours and mine have a history that provides a pretty good crystal ball of how we'll continue to behave, unless something drastic changes.

And now, in a most predictable move, America is threatening to cut trade ties with Ecuador if they dont stay out of the Assange deal.

Classic. We're so fucked its beyond defending.
