Talk about a kick ass place.
I have drove past the places here in Portland tons of times.
Thought it was like a Bi-Mart, a smaller version of Costco not worth it.
Man was I wrong, that place is kick ass and blows Walmart out the water. I couldn't believe how cheap the place was.
As a college student, I live off Value menu's and Ramen. But tonight for the first time in weeks I ate like a champ and didn't feel guilty about it.
I suggest checking one out if you can. I couldn't believe how cheap Brand name stuff was there as well.
Walmart still had some cheaper items but the majority went to Winco.

Not everybody gets to shop there.....
Corn based and grain oriented food products (grain fed livestock and other types of food) are hugely expensive to produce, inefficient use of farmland, nutritionally void, and are poisoning you.
None of that crap Win-Co (or most grocery stores) sell would ever be able to compete price-wise in a truly competitive and free market. Subsidization makes it possible for that food to be somehow cheaper than grass fed livestock and organic non-fossil fuel dependent farming of produce.
So go ahead and think it is cheaper. You pay for it with your taxes. And they you pay again with your health.
Listen to Joe Rogan's podcast #245. They break it down pretty good there.
Winco carries every brand that you would find in any other retail grocery store. Plenty of organics, and a very complete produce section.
I thought Win-Co was cheaper cause it was a employee owned company.
Shit was I way off.

Your best bet is to shop at Whole Foods Market. But I still double check everything.
I typically only go there when I don't have the time to go anywhere between classes as I don't like bending over and taking it up the rear for a salad.
I have also tried to shop there for groceries and theres no way to do it cheap.
I make maybe 30K a year? My tuition and rent is about 30K a year.
So thats not including, gas, travel, food, school books, other crap you need.
You see my problem?
When I can afford to eat non-conspiracist food and hold my head up higher then the rest of society cause of where they shop and eat maybe I will. Though I don't know if my rear end will ever get use to the abuse from it.
look at this shit....in that other thread i was saying how hot it is up here, this is on the deck in my backyard.
actual temp is like 109, but out on the deck is it like a sauna, if i sit in one place in my chair, my tires get tacky!
My girlfriend and I live together and we live on about $250 a month for our groceries. Been on the paleo diet for a minute now.
Sorry if I came off as "elitest" or like I was trying to put you down. That wasnt my intention.
It doesnt take a whole lot of in depth reading to look at how crazy the industrialized food complex is. Movies like "Food Inc" and "Supersize Me" make it pretty easy and they are pretty much life changing after watching. Listening to Joe Rogan's podcast isnt a bad idea either. I like to watch one of those movies about once ever 6 months and that pretty much cures me of any temptation to eat junk food.
OC can crack jokes on me with the tin foil and I know he's just joking. But a "conspiracy" is exactly what has gone on. It started in the 50's and by the 70's it went into full effect. Our countries diets and health have gone to shit ever since. That isnt a coincidence, it is indeed, a conspiracy. There is no other way to explain it.
With the readily available information afforded us by the internet, there is no excuse for anyone to not be informed on this stuff anymore.
Check this website out and email this guy, he's really good about responding to people. Ask him how you can eat healthier considering your economic situation. Im sure he'll have some good advise for you.

Our health is the single most important thing we have. Nothing is enjoyable without it. It's our foundation. Absolutely priceless. And the last place any of us should be taking shortcuts.
To make matters worse, my A/C unit is going out, i have a window unit because the house a/c doesnt barely reach out here in my studio. Have looked everywhere from Lowes to Home Depot to Sears and even WallyWorld, and NO ONE has em in stock.

"I firmly believe that it starts in our youth."
That is how i grew up, wasnt allowed candy or junkfood, on Fridays mom would take us for treat day and get candy. She always packed our lunches for school and healthy stuff, was never allowed white bread etc etc. Sometimes i think it might of backfired, because now if i allow myself, i would be a freakin junk food junky! When i was getting my p'scripts filled once a month at Walgreens, i would load up on the candy isle lol but have since changed pharmacies, so at least i cut all that out.
Instead of candy now, ill try and get one of those Costco sized bags of dried fruit, i could eat that kind of stuff all day long. But i really need to do something about my overall eating habits, like try and make myself eat a good breakfasts, normally it is just a banana, an ice cold RedBull and 2 percs lol Then i wont eat all day until dinner, then a late midnight/2am snack.
Even though the dinner is usually something healthy, eating one meal per day is not nearly enough. Its fucking hard tho man...i usually have to totally force myself to eat, sometimes when things are bad, ill go up to 2 full days w/o eating anything.
Sorry for fully rambling, going a little stir crazy over here from being stuck in the house from this heat....fucking losin' it man!
Fruit smoothies, Veggie or both in one?
Its much easier to sip on something all day then too actually eat.
My parents are getting all into "juicing" bought a really nice juicer, but i cant handle some of the shit they make. The fruity stuff is great, but mixin in some viggies...yuck! (and i LOVE my veggies, just not freakin liquified! lol) Ill have to experiment with that thing and find something i like, if all else fails ill just pour a RedBull in it! RB's make everything good
Usually when I get money to be honest ha.
I'll switch my diet up for quite awhile and actually live off fruits and veggies in veggie form.
I don't find a lot of time to cook so those are the easy solution and as I said to Scottie, when its hard to eat healthy meals all day, its easier for me to sip on something all day then to eat a once or twice and over eat.
Then typically for dinner ill eat veggies with a lean chicken breast.
The diet which wouldn't seem like it would cost a lot, hammers my wallet, which is odd because along with cutting out crap food I typically cut off my energy drink addiction for the most part as well which is an expensive habit.
Movies like Supersize me and Food Inc. never get to me, in all honesty just as much crap goes into those movies as they are trying to expose and lots of movies have came out contradicting to them and going towards the other side, mainly the supersize me theory.
Everyones body is different, no one body process toxins, foods and vitamins the same.
Some people are blessed with bodies that allow them to smoke a pack a day, drink non-stop, hunt, fish and work in perfect health at 67. Some are cursed with bodies at 52 who cant eat whatever they want, bad blood sugar even though they look healthy as an ox and even exercise daily and have been fitness nuts since there 20's.
Bodies are weird man...
If I had the cash its exactly what I would get (I think the blenders are pretty spendy) there is a guy who was also at my state fair back in Alaska, every year I would go to his booth to get some tortilla soup he would make and just in a few minutes too.
I agree, RedBull does make everything taste good....I have been known to skip meals and just drink RedBulls and Monsters for my intake of the day.
How would you go about a blender soup?
Their is a reason why GMO foods are being banned in other countries.... Monsanto just lost a major lawsuit in Brazil..... and high fructose corn syrup has been banned in France.
Diet matters. And what we feed our livestock and the nutrients that go into our produce have a direct impact on the nutritional value and whether it makes us sick or not. Remember, mad cow disease came from what we were feeding the cows. And the grain they currently feed livestock isnt making the animals much healthier.
I live in Europe currently. The food regulations here are stricter than in the U.S. A great example is how the ingredients of Coca-Cola are much different due to regulations. I can cite numerous examples like that.
My girlfriend moved over here with me. Prior to the move she was running 6 miles a day, 6 days a week, and was doing the paleo diet but buying her meat and produce from a "regular" grocery store. She weighed 132 lbs at 5'6" tall at the time and wasnt losing any weight after 7 months of strict diet and exercise. In fact, she gained weight (2 lbs).
After moving over, she now only runs a 3 mile loop, 5 days a week with me. And her diet has been worse as we occasionally cheat on our diet and go get a pizza and some gelato. By all accounts she should have gained weight but the opposite happened. In the first month of being here, she lost 12 lbs and is continuing to get healthier and healthier. Skin, hair, demeanor.... everything is improved. The only thing that changed was grocery store and the fact that our water isnt full of flouride.
That is the difference where your groceries come from can make.
I can email you a list of really good websites with awesome shit to read to learn about diet and whatnot if you'd like.
Read up on all the stuff and give it a month to try and I guarantee you will be hooked and feel 100% better.
It's great for digestion cause its all blended just like a smoothie ha.
Here is a recipe like the guy at my state fair always did.
All of these usually get put down as unhealthy and dangerous by various 'experts' supplied by the 'nutrition' industry. The truth is however that what they are is healthy and effective which cannot be said for 'diet' foods which are a multi billion dollar industry.
Oh, and I personally think that one of the reasons why people lose weight after leaving the US (myself included) without changing their diet is that the feedstuff for livestock is much more strictly controlled here. It's absolutely forbidden to add Growth hormones here but I know that that is routine there. Threre will be other things too.
Too bad giving livestock antibiotics as a staple in their diet isn't banned everywhere. That little trick may well kill millions around the world in future years.
Do yourself a HUGE favor and download Joe Rogans podcast #245. He has Robb Wolf as his guest. Robb Wolf is one of the industry leaders of the Paleo Diet. He breaks down the Atkins, food industry policy/history, and a ton of other health questions that Rogan had for him.
He has a book out but according to him, he put all the info from his book onto his website for free, so that is why I posted that link.
Hey Scottie, dont forget, I got you and Seth both some Marc Marquez memorabilia from when I was at the MotoGP race that I need to send you.
