I saw this heading, and I thought it was about stupid OEM dealers.

I work for a large aftermarket retailer, and I'm astounded by the number of people who call, saying their local OEM dealer told them a particular part is no longer available. I have a close relationship with several OEM dealers, and I will even check on some of these claims. I find it is false the vast majority of times.

What's up with that? They don't want to special order parts for a machine older than ten years old? Why not? Why tell someone it's no longer available?

I realize some service departments don't want to work on them, but why wouldn't you order parts so Joe Blow can fix it himself? Just to force him to buy something newer? I don't get it, please explain. It's alot more common than you'd think.

I'm just guessing the pimply faced kid behind the counter has never used an old microfiche machine. "Dude ..... like where's the key's and stuff....?"

Same kid when the register say's $7.37 and you give them $10.12 they freak out and shit themselves.

In most cases it's just incompetent employees (guys that work there for the discount).
Or maybe they don't want to be bothered with old dirt bike parts when Mr. Goldwing is next in line with $1000 ready to buy a bunch of stuff for his bike. They don't want to put the effort into getting piston and rings for a 1981 RM125 or whatever for 10 cents profit.

I saw a dude parked accross the street from a dealer once in a dirt field with his bike and a big sign trying to sell his bike , by useing the dealers traffic to get noticed.

How fucked up is that ?

Yeah, I suppose the incompetent employee could be a big part. I seen plenty of kids that couldn't push a button to update a superceded part number.
