Is there a way to limit the throttle on this bike? I believe it is an 07 model. I had a friend call me about an hour ago and said he was trying to teach his youngest to ride and got the crap scared out of him when his kid pinned it wide open clear across a field and down a hill. Luckly it stoped at the bottom with the kid and father scared to death. I had to chuckle a little but seriously it isn't that funny when you think about it. The kid is 5 years old but he just doesn't have the concept of the throttle. I looked online and can't find anything where the manufacture designed a throttle limit. Is it something that you might have to do to limit the throttle like put a spacer in the carb or what? He said he tried just adjusting the cable but couldn't get anything with any throttle action and spring return. So that isn't an option. Any ideas?

Tack weld a washer in the pipe near the exaust port. That will tame it down then drill out the washer a size or two when Jr is ready for a little more boost. Fun times.

Get some copper pipe just big enough to fit inside the top of the carb to restict the slide. Cut to fit with a haksaw.

Thanks guys. I haven't messed with the bike or anything but I was really surprised that it doesn't come with some kind of throttle limiter. I'll probably try to do the spacer in the carb. I was trying to figure out what to use. So the copper pipe works pretty well? I invision it as a piece that is wide enough to fit around the spring. Like take the throttle cable off the slide, put the copper pipe spacer on and the spring inside of that, then attach the cable back to the slide. Does that sound right?

Yep. To get the right size, just pull the slide off and bring it with you into Home Depot while picking out the copper. Make it just big enough to fit inside the slide, that way it won't scratch the walls of the carb body.

I think that the Sr Adv uses Bellevue (sp?) washers like the Pro models, though it would have a different stack. If you're looking for a lower rpm engagement, try using the springs off a Mini Adv.

And when JR gets better, the Pro Sr carb and pipe bolt right up to the Sr Adv for a big power increase.

Lastly, the mini section at KTMtalk is an excellent place to get info on all types of minis, and there's hours upon hours of reading available on the KTM 50's.

Have fun!

Sounds like I'm going to have some fun today. This sure beats my idea. My solution was to tie a rope around his kneck and make him ride in circles. If he got whiskey throttle he'd pull on the rope and choke. I'm guessing he'd learn after a few times. My second idea was maybe some kind of shocking collar for dogs. I'm sure they have one with a school boy setting on it. This is probably why I don't have kids.
I'll check out KTMtalk sometime and see what I can learn about these things. Sounds like they are pretty cool little bikes. I didn't realize there was so many models and upgrading was a matter of swapping parts from another model.

On second thought, I definately like your ideas better.

Please try them, video the results, and post them for us to critique.

Thank you.
