It would be awesome to have the top guys wear heart rate monitors and have them displayed in real-time during the broadcast to see who is where in fitness. The Tour has been doing this for years. You're welcome.

That would be AWESOME!!! It could also be valuable to the editors. They see someone's heart rate spike or go up they know something is happening and to find that rider.

Polar has team sets where the receiver gets set trackside. Too easy, but this sport is too secretive. Can't let this info out to the general public like the Tour de France does. Besides, if someone were heatstroking on the track and the monitors were set to alert such a threshold/situation what would be done? Polar would probably set the equipment in place and monitor it in exchange for their banner running across the tele screen.

Cycling tours are very boring television they need any gimmick they can get, I don't see the heart rate monitor being such a useful thing in MX personally, g-rate and motion/impact sensors on the other hand have huge potential.
Though for any sensor transmission I think the technical issues would be huge, to be light enough the transmission range would be short ( the camera on the bike by the cyclists gets around this ) making things tricky, not to mention the ruggedness required.
