So you all know I emailed DJ (nine1seven) letting him know I am also after factory clutch and ignition covers for my 96 CR MC replica. So if any of you out there know of any please let me know. Also DJ, what pipe are you running? I was going to run a stock pipe with the welds ground down and paint stripped, then polished. Or a cone pipe like Pat237 has on his 90 CR125 project.....thoughts anyone?

I still have a lot to do to get it 'right'. Black hubs and bottom of forks, gold annodised upper fork tubes, carbon silencer and more to get it perfect.

MCfan4life, Great looking bike! Where did you get that front number plate?

Also just my $0.02, but to get it "right" you (and I also) still need to find the aluminum frame guards. The Works Connections ones available are close, but not exactly right. If you find a place to get them please post it!

Ya, lose the chrome pipe. Put an unfinished pro circuit on.

Thanks guys. I've got Works Connction frame guards and skid plate already plus some Pro Circuit pegs. I currently have the bike stripped down for it's "final" rebuild so I'm getting everything just right. The front number plate is actually a UFO front plate. I tried getting a PlasticWerx factory replica plate but found them too hard/unreliable to deal with. The UFO plate is the same but it doesn't come with the lrge screw like the PW one. I have a 2nd UFO plate with #1 on it and signed by MC so that will go on the bike when this rebuild is finished. From memory the UFO part # is 2683041 but check with your dealer or UFO.

The pipe - Pro Circuit no longer make a works pipe for this model but after contacting them and sending pics of the bike they said they could build a one-off works pipe for me which was cool. But I decided against it because, although it would be close, it's not "right". MC only ran a PC pipe when he raced Euro SX racesonly and the graphics etc on those bikes were completely different. So to get the right look I will probably go with the stock pipe with welds ground down, stripped of paint then polished similar to this:

The platinum pipe was put on as the first project was rushed in order to get the photos with MC at the Townsville SuperX in 08 and that was all that was available at the time.

MCfan: great looking replica. Those are some cool pics.

You can still find PC works pipes out there on ebay. I found the pipe for my 96 brand new. I wanted a PC pipe because my 96 has a full PC motor so I wanted a matching pipe. On my 93 I used the stocker with the paint bead blasted off. Then I sanded/wire brushed the surface so it would look like a factory pipe. There is a few dings in it so I need a perfect stocker and then I'll grind down the seams and re-weld the pipe together to look exactly like the factory pipes.

The PW front number plates are a translucent plastic which is nearly identical to the factory number plates so I would run that if I were you. It is hard to actually get your hands on one though. Maybe you could transfer the background with the signature onto it from the UFO plate if you find one.

Make sure and post up some pics when you finish it!

Here's a better view of the UFO front plate. It's solid white whereas the PW is translucent, like 917 said.

By the way I think I got Works Connections last set of frame guards. I searched high and low for them and eventually got a set direct from WC. I got the WC skid plate from Chaparral

Thanks for the info on the number plate, I will look into that. As mentioned, the PC works pipes are still around in some warehouses. I got one for my 93 from a place in michigan. I called pro circuit and asked for the names of their largest distributors that might have some pipes still lying around.

A little off topic, but has anyone tried to put a 96 spring on a 93 rear shock? Apparently they changed the inner diameter of the spring between those years because it won't fit. I looked on the parts fiche and sure enough, the upper and lower mounts for the spring are completely different. So does anyone know if I can just get these new mounts and use them on my 93 shock? Or am I better off scraping the 96 spring and using the 93 (and painting it the color I want).

Moto_123 the 96 CR used Kayaba suspension whereas the 93 had Showa suspension so the components would be completely different on both shocks (and forks). I would just get the 93 spring painted. That's what I have to do also with my 96 spring. Just make sure you get it painted by a reputable paint shop.

On the subject of the UFO plastics, UFO also do a 'flouro' red front fender wich is what I have gone with. It's a perfct match for the 97 CR125 seat.

I'm going with the genuine pipe also (with the mods). Just trying to make it as authentic looking as possible. Gotta get my pipe looking like this...

Ah that makes more sense about the spring now. DOH! Can't believe I didn't think of that.

Moto123: I'm glad your putting pics up of your rebuild. It's cool seeing the progress. You could use a 96 shock on your 93. It will fit and works much better with adjustable high and low speed compression damping.

I laced up my first dirt bike wheel last night! I added more info and pictures to my thread on thumpertalk, but these pics give you the idea. It was actually easier than I thought. I've also got the last of the parts I need on order, so this project might actually finish within budget.

Here is a scan from the cover of a book I bought at the AMA. It says its McGrath's 95. Inside there is a good picture of both sides except the background color is light and the white parts , like the fender don't show up as well as this with red background.

I also have that book and really like all the information in it. However I am convinced that on that particular bike, the authors either have a typo or got it plain wrong. That is MC's 1996 bike. His 1995 is what I am trying to replicate with the biggest differences being the red rear fender, red fork guards and the graphics.

I think you're right, I just scanned this out of the August 1995 issue of Dirt Rider.

Here's a close-up of the bike.

You guys are correct - the book is wrong. It is MC's 96 bike pictured in the book. The major differences being rear guard, fork guards, decals and seat cover as moto_123 mentioned Wink

Hey there Col, Just got my HRC clutch cover this weekend. It is really trick. It is a billet AL CNC machined piece. It is much thicker and stronger than stock. It has a V shaped oil feed that pokes out for a CR500 so you will have to grind that bit off because the clutch push rod hits it when it extends. My only complaint is that it is on the heavy side compared to the stocker...by like a 1/4 lb!

Other than finishing my Titanium parts, this is the last thing I needed for my CR. I just put on some of those carbon fiber looking airbox graphics as well. I'll post pics when I get a chance.

Those look great! But he's definitely not selling them for free. I'd love one for my bike, but definitely don't have that in the budget.

Here's a pic of Lamson's bike in the April '95 Dirt Rider. I've been thinking about building a '93 CR125 Henry replica, but this bike is freakin' awesome. I forgot how good the '95 CR works bikes looked.

Hey moto_123 you're right - they're not free. But man are they a thing of beauty. You have to pay for good quality these days and believe me these are good quality. You are really getting what you pay for here.

The guy who makes them now also has the factory replica ignition covers also. He has them to fit CR250's and CR500's. Anybody interested in one please contact me and I will pass on his email address.

Again, these things are TOP QUALITY. Billet alloy and sandblasted to give them the factory HRC look.

And no I'm not working on comission from this guy. These clutch and ignition covers are exactly what this thread was all about to start with. I will be starting a new thread soon on my rebuild of my 96 CR250 MC replica. This time it will be perfect.

I got the HRC clutch and ignition covers now! Thanks to Bart and Colin and everyone for helping me find them!

I also put carbon fiber airbox graphics on. All I need to do now is finish the Titanium axle....
