Back in the day when there were 500 and 250 gps here, they were at different venues and different dates, and US riders not doing the whole series had to elect one or the other, not ride both. Some guys would run support at one race and the gp at the other. Some would ride just one of the gps. Some would not do any at all.

Not that this drove the question, but Motodude continued his whack conspiracy theory nonsense over at Racetime asserting that no marquee US riders will participate because MX Sports will put the screws to them. I wonder whether guys can and will participate in much depth period. There doesn't seem to be any financial incentive for a one-off ride, and I don't think you could treat them differently financially from the gp regulars. US guys, other than maybe the three headed to the MXdN, are going to be into the off season and transitioning to SX testing and looking to the Vegas race. And you;d have to think including any top US talent would really throw a curve ball at the gp regulars in a points chase.

I think it's awesome the have the GP's coming back to the US, but I wonder whether its realistic or desireable to consider it some kind of showcase for US vs. GP talent.
