i have (3) 1/10 scale trophy trucks, all are brushless / lipo setups, I have a Traxxas Slash 4x4, a HPI Blitz, and a Team Associated SC10.....and by far, the Slash has been more reliable and durable then the other two...also, of the 3 the slash does have more ground clearance too, which is good in the desert with lots of rocks, but sometimes causes high speed rollovers more often in the street....

Like mentioned above....... Traxxas are good trucks for bashing in the backyard/parking lot.... they really support moto, they are good people to spend your cash on...

runtimes are more determined these days with motor temps than the batteries running out of steam... but on average, on an 80 degree socal day with stock gearing on a 5k+ lipo you are looking at minimally 15 minutes... 30 minute runtimes are not out of the question with reduced gearing and larger capacity lipos...

AE.... still "ok" gear.... not the same since they were sold to Thunder Tiger.... they still win a lot of races, but that's do more to their racers than their equipment now days...

Losi.... same story, not the same since they were sold to horizon... still "ok", but not the same as when a real Losi was designing the product...

if you are looking for esoteric racing gear you'd be looking more at durango and x-ray.....

the rc world is all about brushless/lipo and scale looks now days... short course trucks and scale buggies are hot...... the Axial EXO is a sweet bash machine, as is the HPI Apache C-1...

although... gas may be making a comeback in the rc scene..... we'll see how the new HPI extreme 8th scale gas (not nitro) motors go over......

rc is a nickel and dime you to death sort of hobby..... all those $10-$40 parts add up fast.... racing tires are $80 and can easily be burnt off in one run.....

I would recommend Losi all the way, but I agree with gt80rider, they are not the same since they were sold to Horizion.

Slash breaks control arms and spindle/knuckles faster than you can get replacements. Absolute junk. Every little thing the kid hit resulted in broken parts. After spending all his money on it I was buying the replacement parts. Thankfully the motor burnt up with just a few hours time on it before I went broke buying parts and shipping charges. He sold all his nitro crap to go electric because it was supposed to be reliable. He was very disappointed.to say the least.
You're doing something wrong. Just replace the couple parts that break with aluminum. The Slash's are pretty tough trucks. The only way those motors burn up is if you don't blow them out with air. They get packed with dust. They are like a dirt bike, u need to do routine maintenance. Dave

You can't go wrong with a Slash 4x4.

As said earlier maybe not the ideal race car but pretty tough.

When you break the control arms (suspension) then just buy some RPM brand ones and you will never break one again.

LiPo's are the best but follow all the charging precautions (I know of two house fires from LiPo issues).

Stay away from the 1/16 scale stuff as the wheels are just too small for serious off-road work.

Be prepared to laugh, a lot!

I pretty much quit doing RC because you have to work on them a lot, lot more than dirt bikes.
