Maybe the problem with Stewart?

If any of you guys follow MMA, you see that some guys who are fairly young start to diminish competitively (Fedor, Rua). It has nothing to with age, but the mileage on their body. They've been in worse battles than most and it takes it's toll.

Stewart has been one of the fastest guys but has always crashed the most, and that has to have an impact. He has taken bigger hits than almost any rider I can think of, and he gets back up and keeps on going. At some point, it will have an effect and maybe he has reached that point. If you look at Sidney Crosby, he hasn't been able to play for the better part of 2 years because of hits to the head. Without any scientific evidence to back it up, I would argue that many of Stewart's crashes resulted in harder hits to the head.

I may be off base, but it's definitely something to keep an eye on now that the damage of head injuries is more known.

I think one of his biggest problems this year is he's freaked out about the start. If you look at the past (since he's joined the big boy class) in half the races he dumps it in the first corner. I think he mentally told himself backoff, but once past the first corner he panics a little bit, because he is in 15th place out of the first corner.
He still has the speed and skill. I don't doubt that one bit. If he ever gets a holeshot, RV1 and RD5 better be ready to fight.

The only problem with Stewart is that he hasn't ridden enough over the last couple of years. He needs a full season of racing to get in the groove. A 3rd in the points would be a good and successful goal.

Its a good point, but unlikely he's suffering from it.. lets face it, he still runs the fast lap times and is arguably the quickest guy at some point each week, its just not coming together for him.

just look at Travis Pastrana, he's taken a stupid amount of hits but is still going strong!

Stewarts problem is RV, RD and CR, among others.
