Trying to work on the bike that returned to me after it was stolen. Anyway, put on new bar clamps and bars, but when trying to put the new throttle tube on..I can't get the freakin throttle cable cables back on the tube and the housing reassembeled around the tube. Its like a freakin puzzle to me now. Is there a trick to it? My bike is a 2005 CRF450R. So rather than totally mess it up and bend up the cables - I left it hanging. I just cant figure out wich cable goes into wich notch AND fit them over the little plastic guide AND keep the whole thing over the tube...could somebody point me in the right direction?

Its ok to call me names. I'm definately no mechanic

I think I figured it out. I was holding it upside down. Or up as it was. After looking at a few diagrams I think I'll be able to get it. Hopefully.

It's difficult to explain not being there in person. There are adjusters on the cable that can tighten the amount of cable play you have. First, make sure those are backed all the way off so you have as much free play to work with as possible. If you put the cables in reverse order, the throttle will open opposite to normal and you'll just need to reverse the cables at the throttle housing. Make sure the throttle ends are correctly seated into position and laying flat. Make sure the throttle housing is clean and doesn't have any gunk built up. If the cables are really tight, you may need to unhook them from the carb linkage to gain enough cable slack. Other than that, I can't really give any other advice. You just have to play with it until it goes together. If the throttle doesn't turn freely, don't force it because the cables are binding and you have something wrong.

Thanks dude. I believe I was actually trying to cross the cables over each other which makes no sense...lol...the " pull" cable is in farther than the "push" cable and more "taught". i think I understand what I was doing wrong, but getting the cables to stay on the on the edge of the tube and seated in the tube slots and keeping them both aligned on the little plastic guide AND get the whole thing to stay in place while getting the housing over it was proving kind of difficult. Now that it "visually" makes sense to me hopefully it will quit fighting me. I have an entirely new motion pro cable, but id rather salvage what i have for the moment just to get it running. Then I'll probably let a pro take care of replacing the entire cable. i would mess it up im sure...lol

thanks again for your advice.

Yea I think you just made yourself make sense of it! It's just one of those little project that's confusing to understand, but once everything falls into place you're like "oh now i get it" and it's never an issue doing another one.

I've read a few posts on other sites and it appears as if no one really has an easy time re-assembling the housing around the end of the tube and keeping the cables and plastic guide in place all at once. i should probably draw myself a diagram (im an art director) and make it available to other dudes that go cross-eyed looking at such things. I'm surprised there is no visual reference for that already, or maybe I'm looking in the wrong places.

I hope the clutch side isn't gonna fry my brain too. I've got an ASV F3 perch and lever with the "thumb" hot start (which works opposite of the stock one. The stock version "pulls" above the lever. The new one "pushes" with your thumb below the lever. I'm a little less fearful of the clutch cable - not as much going on.

I will be happy to get these things installed so I can finish tightening up my clamps and bars - they are really ugly, but kind of cool. I'm trying out an Easton oversize bar set. It has that hideous rubberized oval bar pad that fits over the bar clamps. I've never seen anyone use them. I hope they work out. The stock clamps look like total junk in comparison.

The honda throttle housing is a very poor design IMO. Dirt and grime quickly develop and the cables fall off the throttle tube which makes the throttle have poor feedback and stick. The kawasaki throttle housing is much better and can be found pretty cheap. It comes with a gasket that blocks sand, dirt, and grime. It also has cable guides so the cable doesn't fall off the track so to speak. Motion Pro pretty much copied the Kawi housing design with their throttle.

i agree about the desgin, but thats what i got. I did replace the stock throttle tube with an aluminum pro circuit model, but its kind of the same deal. There are two holes with a little slot, but nothing to really keep it from slipping off. The plastic slider part in the middle has channels, but is a pain in the ass to get the cables on along with the tube, and snapedp into each side of the housing AND over the tube with out it falling apart or binding.

How about this? Is there a reason why one cable would be sticking out quite a bit farther than the other?
