ok so far at every round the riders have mentioned how 'slippery' the tracks are...regardless of the region we are in.

What does it take to keep a sx track 'moist'...i don't see what the problem is...

anybody have any insight?

I heard they mix animal lard in with the dirt so it packs together better and forms ruts. The only downside is it makes the dirt slippery.

seriously?

is the dirt from a storehouse or is it fresh from an outdoor source?

The lard is usually donated by an area slaughterhouse.

Did you watch the ATL race this weekend. Malcom Stewart face planted into a jump. When they interviewed him on tv did you see how oily his skin was? It was from the lard in the dirt.

I think it would help if they would use a tractor with a tiller. Water it then till the turns and straights. Then maybe run over it with a dozier. I was watching them prep the track at Atlanta and the guy on the dozier would push a couple of inches of dirt over the already hard ground. That just makes it more slippery. If they would have watered and tilled it, I think they would have had a lot more traction.

It is stored at each venue from year to year and also used for the other Feld indoor motosports events.

They do have to mix lime and other things in sometimes to condition it and over the years I would imagine the consistency must change.
Constant working of it during the race day, the plywood floor underneath may have moisture that comes up and then in some cases you have the evening change of temp and it's moisture changes.......Lot of factors.

One of the rounds last year got new dirt, don't remember which but there were a lot of remarks about it.
