I've been wondering the same thing. He mentioned on the podium he broke them, but then in Racer X Open mic he said he's fine.

He was definitely sore. I'm sure he'd have had to get checked out afterward to make a full determination.

how many more people watch the broadcast interview than read the RacerX open mic?

just curious.

you know there are millions (probably only hundreds but millions is much more drastic and attention grabbing) of people wondering just how he can ride so good with broken ribs, they must think he is the direct offspring of Chuck Norris.

but there's one thing i know for sure after many ribs injuries, the day it happens is much more mellow than a few days later. i'm sure he'll be sore but otherwise fine.

I'm just repeating what I read and heard.
I'm surprised he didn't dislocate a shoulder because of hitting the tough block.
In the 11 years of racing, I never once did anything to my ribs so I have no way of knowing what's legit.

I bruised some ribs in a crash about 5 miles into a 90 mile desert race....I finished the race just fine, only a minor discomfort....the next day, and the weeks following...it hurt to breath, and don't even talk to me about sneezing or coughing, or lifting up one of my kids.

I don't doubt james bruised some ribs...but I'll bet this weekend is more uncomfortable for him than last weekend.

Regardless they both hurt a lot. I have had bruised ribs and it is very unpleasant. Hard to breathe and very sensitive to movement. James is in very good shape so that will help a lot. I guess we will find out in San Diego.

I thought the medical unit on site had the capability to do x-rays, is that not the case?

They can do quickie imaging, but it's not a sophisticated as a dedicated X-Ray unit.

We may never know the exact extent of the injury, IMO it is not smart to let your competition know you're injured.

it doesn't matter whether the ribs show up broken on a X-ray or not,
the soreness from a cartlidge tear takes the same amount of time for the injury to recover.

it just sounds better in the PR trying to expain the difference.

T-Boned in my Ranger, 12 ribs broke of my sternum and pitch forked into my guts. 20 years later still paying the price with intestinal blockages from scar tissue. Yeah broken ribs suck.

that is for sure, they thought Josh Hill's leg was fine and it ended up being broke.

Bubba did not break any ribs, if he had there is no way he would have rode like he did.

I went through the same thing late October last year, didn't break any ribs but my whole chest / ribs were badly bruised from a car accident. Coughing was some of the worst pain ever, sneezing I held off every time for a good month by breathing fast through my nose which seemed to work when it was coming on.

There's no way James would be racing if he felt anything like my upper body did for the days and weeks after it happened, it's just not possible to move your upper body around properly without any serious pain whether on pain killers or not.

Good thing he was able to ride today and just feel sore from what OC posted above as that crash could have easily put him out for the year.
