Also, Meytal isn't great. She's okay, but there are many that would tear her up in so many categories.

Gavin Harrison playing a porn song, for example.

She isn't a superstar but she's got chops for what little time she's been doing it. She does her own thing and seems to be doing great for herself. I don't put up shit to try and one up another ones perception of a drummer otherwise I'd be here all week posting drummers that would put her to shame.

And yes that dude is a fuckn beast. Was that Behind the Green Door porn music. Dry

I think her chops are weak. She can play triplets with double bass, smile for the camera, and be an average drummer.

But lets be realisic. Why would you choose meytal? It's not for her drumming abilities, that's for sure.

You're right, there's hundreds of great drummers.

Who said I chose her as if she was the chosen one? I posted her in a Metal thread a while back cuz she covers good shit and the quality of the audio and video with the camera angles is good. Not many people use that perspective with the angles and shit.

As far as the her chops go a lot of that stuff she plays really is technical and is way beyond what I could do. But ya if I guess if I want to fit in and act like I know then I'll post some Carl Palmer or Mike Portnoy vids and pretend I'm a badass drummer that knows my shit. I just find it funny how some claim something is easy yet I haven't seen any vids of them playing.

Why you got some vids showing your skills?

You posted her in this thread...A "Queens new lead singer...for reals??" thread. You can have the best cameras with the best angles, and she still is pretty average. And I think those angles have been used as long as people have had cameras, and been playing musical instruments, and shit. Keith Moon, for one.

Yes she isn't technical, either. Hey, you can't do it, which is fine. That entire video was just playing slow triplets.

You fit in. Don't let anyone tell you differently.

In which case, you demand to see another persons video, yet you have none of your own.

Lastly, nobody is pretending to be anything. I'm sorry if you can't play 1/8th triplets on a double bass kit.

Do I have some video showing my skills? No. But I have plenty of videos showing the skills of real drummers.

You must have trouble reading or following along. Did I post her vid or even bring her into this thread? Go back and take a look genius. From what I see Jmar got his feelings hurt over my comment about Lambert and brought up a vid or topic I posted 2 years ago cuz his feelings got hurt over my opinion of Lambert. Sad

As far as the camera angles go I guess I should of been more specific as to referring about Youtube when dealing with such a historian like yourself.

As far as the skills go I'm not the one running around claiming certain shits easy or so and so isn't no good.

And of course you don't have videos or anything showing you drum other then what you type on a keyboard.

I don't play guitar but I bet I can do better then most by showing you vids of guitar players skills. Whistling

Not buying it. I could see if it was fresh, but it's not even close. Better luck on that later. I'm not saying It was, just didn't seem so.

Marc Martel is NOT a Freddie Mercury impersonator. Marc Martel just happens to sound exactly like Freddy. He does his own music and is successful at it. That said, who better to cover all of Queen's incredible library? I'm kind of confused about this whole thing because Martel was indeed picked in December to be the bands lead singer. What changed?

Honestly Terry, it's easy to get. Brian and Roger don't want someone that sounds just like Freddie.

It's going to be a new band, and they want a different twist on their music.

Let's just say that I would spend good money to see Queen again. But I would never spend any money to see Adam Lambert. I think most Queen fans would feel the same way.

Now, how do the Lambert fans here at Vital feel?

As I have already said, I am not a fan of Adam Lambert. In fact, for the most part, I am not a big fan of 35 year old music period.
With that said, it's a proven fact that people like their nostalgia from their early years, and will pay to see these bands even when they are past their prime.

What I find funny about all of this is that people seem to hate Lambert because he's a flamer. Freddie was the guy that open the doors for guy's like Lambert.

That's not what they said when they saw his audition tape. They were blown away and said he was a perfect fit. Not sure what changed that.

Ah, I get it now. Lambert was chosen to front Queen, Martel was chosen to front Queen's official touring cover band.

I think Adam Lambert is a "little pitchy, Dog". They should have went with David Archuleta. That dude who he was dueting with on "We are the Champions" is a much better singer. Lambert is a high pitch squeeler with no range at all.

Wow that's tragic.. I guess when some people don't wanna see Lambert cover Queen they're in the Lambert hater club. So Freddie opens doors for guys like Lambert and we should automatically like him?

Lambert performed with Queen in Nov. '11, I think it was at the European MTV music awards, and it is the best Queen has sounded since Freddie. I can't believe someone could say the guy has no range. I've seen him live, and to me he is even better live than in the studio, and he's as good at the end of a show as he is at the start.

I just gotta jump in here real quick.

This Meytal chick.... I can respect what she is doing - which is not really much of anything other than enjoying the drum set and enjoying playing the music she likes and posting up videos on youtube. There is nothing wrong with that. In fact, I think it's great. Music is my life and my profession, on both sides of the glass. Has been for quite some time, and I think anytime somebody has the balls to get up on stage and put themselves out there, they deserve at least a little respect.

Will she ever be anything other than what she is right now? No. Sorry that's just the way it is. She just isn't very good, and that isn't to discourage, it's just to say what is reality. Playing metal covers (poorly) isn't exactly the end all be all of musicianship in my eyes.

Now before anybody starts jumping on my shit and telling me that I have no basis to an opinion because I don't have videos online, ...save it. I do play, but you don't need to play in order to know that certain players are going to pave the way for new shit, and certain players will stand around and try to copy what has already been paved.

I've been around players who have paved, and it is an entirely different situation. Its actually one of the most amazing things there is to witness. If you haven't actually seen it go down in person, its very difficult to explain.

My buddy Mark Guiliana started playing in 8th grade. He loved the Chili Peppers. All he wanted to do was play like Chad Smith. And he practiced his ass off. And he in turned could play like Chad Smith. I mean really play like him. College time came around and he made the decision to go to music school for drums. It opened his eyes to a new world. And he made it his own. Developed his own kick pedal style loosely based on Jojo Meyers, but added his own thing in there. Started to not just study rock, but throw jazz into the mix as well. When he wasn't playing, you couldnt get him away from listening to every kind of music imaginable. Metal, jazz, rock, electronic, etc.

Fast forward 10 years. He has his own voice in the drum community. Nobody does what he does. About two months ago I went to see him play in NYC. I was standing in line to get in behind Steve Smith, Jojo, and Will Calhoun. Sabian came to him and asked what HE wanted in a cymbal. Then they developed it for him. Yamaha sends him prototype drums just to ask his opinion of them.

He has toured all over the world, with some absolutely amazing players, but will sit down with anybody and play. He gives clinics all over the world. And he is just 30 years old.

I wont sit here and say he is the end all be all of drumming. Not will I say that everybody will or should like his style. But there is something to be said about taking an instrument, making it your own, living it, and spreading it out there. Do I dig Adam Lambert? Nah, I think he sucks to be honest and is a hollow talent. But, I can understand why Brian wouldnt go for the copy cat angle. I can understand wanting to play music, but Queen has been dead for a while - no real reason to resurrect that IMO>

This is Mark.

A lot of them covers sound spot on to me not missing any notes or off on any timing. I guess if you wanna nitpick about technique not following the drummers she's covering I guess it's a fail since she doesn't follow suit..

Watching the videos of the Martel guy, he comes across as someone who does a good impression of Freddie Mercury's voice. Sort of like the Asian guy who replaced Steve Perry in Journey. Adam Lambert has the range and showmanship to just be himself and still do Queen justice. I've seen Queen live and I've seen Lambert live. I can't think of another singer who can just be himself and not be a mimic, and still pull off the Queen gig.

I'm sorry if you are at all hurt by what I said, but it is the truth. And I'm nothing even remotely close to being a "bro".

Cant help you with your lotto numbers, and I just plain don't really give a hoot about SX.

If the drum covers sound spot on to you, that's fine - but they simply aren't. This is what I do for a living. I get paid to sit in a room and critique what is wrong with performances and convey that to the artist. If they are able to do it correctly, then we move on, if not -then I fix them and make them right. You can argue with me all day til the cows come home about her being great, but you will still be wrong.

...and that's fine. If it is what you enjoy hearing and watching, then by all means, enjoy it. Just don't expect everybody else to follow suit or agree.

Wow you really seem to make it look as if I think Meytal is the second coming of Buddy Rich or something. I said she is a solid drummer who's got some great video and audio quality covers. I'm sensing a bit of envy of some type that this girl gets more attention then a lot of more skilled drummers in the music world you may know or like.

Look I get the whole point that you think her background or style is all about metal and my guess would be you really don't know that much about her other then what you see on youtube. I'm also amazed as how you come off as if you know what direction she's gonna decide to go down the road or what she will accomplish in the future. I might as well have said your buddy in the links above wasn't gonna amount to anything trying to be the next Chad Smith and would go nowhere. Or I might as well say James Stewart is burned up and will never win a title again. Because I know what everyone is gonna do right?

As far as your opinion of her covers not being spot on. I'm sure she'll call upon you to fix it or tell her what she needs to correct. Or they might contact you if their shitter gets clogged at the studio. I'd say she's doing pretty damn good for herself without someone of your stature guiding her. I'm also willing to bet she will accomplish more in her future then what you will accomplish. Whistling That's no more of a fact then what you rattled off about her future.

Ignorance is bliss eh?

Enjoy it my friend.

It can be a scary world when you step out into it and take a real look around.
