Have a chance to trade to a jeep I have for a 2008 YZF 250. Anything I should know about the bike. The kid doesn't know what the bike is worth. Cash money my Cherokee is worth between 1200-1300 dollars. It's a straight up trade.

I'm just curious if there is anything I need to know about this bike? Is it a pretty good bike? Did it have any problems with this year model?

Thanks for any insight.

Solid bike all around. Not a magazine shootout winner but performs well. Engines are bulletproof if they've been cared for. Good suspension.

Give it a good look over when you get it and do some maintence if it needs it. Check the valves and do a compression test.

x2, good suspension, add a pipe, jet it, add 2 teeth on stock gearing.

I had one. It was a solid, reliable bike. Great suspension. I'd recommend running at least a 50-50 mix of 110 race gas and 93, as it comes stock with a 13.5:1 high compression piston. Rejet if necessary (willing to bet you'll need a new leak jet if the previous owner didn't swap it [i used a #50 with good results]), and you should be good to go. Do add an extended fuel screw, as it's a pain to adjust otherwise. I left mine pretty much stock, but the bike would respond well to an aftermarket pipe. In the two years I had it, the valves only needed to be adjusted once.

Note: there are two oil drain plugs. One at the bottom of the sump tank up front, and then one at the back corner of the right side case. I ran Bel Ray "Thumper" in mine, changing it every other ride, and oil filter every other oil change.
