OK. No one seems to be following me anyways. Where's an engineer that likes two strokes around here?

Dude, how many 2-stroke threads have you seen recently? No interests in them?...you must be out of touch...
Yeah I noticed every MX radio show and rider interview are filled with Pro's that want to ride 2 strokes. I also notice that at every event where guys can run what they brung they show up on four strokes. There were rumors of two strokes coming to the MEC but it didn't happen.

Very few people want to ride them and the ones that do should. Whatever floats their boat. The rest of us want to make our four strokes lighter and quit hearing all the bullshit about 2 strokes.

I personally took forever to convert to a four stroke but would never go back. I have ridden Service 500's, 250's, 300's, 125's, 150's, they all ride like two strokes. I like the power delivery and the way a four stroke rides. I prefer it but that is just me.

If a person likes two strokes buy one ride it and STFU.

My degree is not in engineering and i STILL see that your understanding of internal combustion is elementary.

I want to help, though.

search flame travel, dwell time, and static compression. then maybe you wont keep using these introductory level arguments. what you are saying is not wrong per se, but it truly is something you'd read in the first 2 chapters of "Engines for Dummies"

Hey Dirtyfilter75. Thank you for adding absolutely nothing to the thread but space.

Thanks.

and, thanks again.
you have contributed in even less in your rampant 544 posts since sneaking in like an illegal in the back of a uhaul truck.

Your definition of a contribution is very important to me. I will probably lose sleep now....Huh

1. if a pro wanted to ride a two stroke, which one would he ride? a KTM guy perhaps would be the only one, and he DID. Italy. 2011. He qualified 5th on a hilly track and was riding with zero motivation on account of an already wrapped up title.

2. a two stroke stood on top of the podium at MEC. it won by half a lap. it was green and had a little ginger on it.

you can ride whatever you want man, i really dont care. you can masturbate with crunchy peanut butter. i dont care. I just do not like seeing false propaganda, specifically the blanket statement "4 sTROOEKs ARRGGHH BetttttAARR!!"

I don't need a degree I just take my bike to someone to get it fixed and i ride a different one. but since I have a four stroke it doesn't require much maintenance. They have all been pretty bullet proof for me.

Same fuel energy. Different amounts of energy that actually gets converted to work. The higher compression of the four-strokes would be one of the main things that give a 250f an edge against 125s, as higher compression results in better thermal efficiency
Yeah but if you build engines you know that higher compression equals shorter engine life and more stress on piston/crank/rods. In the racing engine world, compression is a shitty way to make power. Its like crack cocaine, go fast and burn out. The old days guys would pop into the machine shop wanting their heads angle milled, everyone wanted to make their engine a grenade. Well come to find out the way to make power is with cam grind, head/runner flow, scavenge and ignition timing events to get close as possible to stoichiometric combustion.

There are so many things posted as fact that are pure BS it's funny........

The AMA changed the displacemet rule for the YZ400F .......WRONG
4 strokes were forced in for emissions.........not a chance
4-strokes have cleaner emissions......in some ways, not in others
360cc 4-stroke maximum....HAR.....PURE BS try 650cc

Stop it.....you guys are killing me with this BS.......I'm sure glad I stopped back for the entertainment....

AC92 was awesome on his two stroke no question. The thing is as soon as he can get on a 4 stroke he will never look back.

We are going to agree on the 2 stroke is more efficient argument. Those that argue that point are either fishing or mentally challenged?

Crunchy Peanut butter? I may have the old lady bring a jar to bed tonight. I will tell her Premix says it's the bomb.

the 4 stroke rule in the AMA was 360cc until 4strokes became "exempt" (that was the buzzword) at which point Smail showed up on that 610cc thumper. Remember?.

Oh, and I am mainly referring to atmospheric pressures. When you get into the world of blowers and turbos, its a whole nother critter altogether, of which I have little experience with other than rebuilding nuked shortblocks with melted pistons cuz Johnny Bolt-on saw a do-it-yourself show on TV how to add boost to his Mustang and proceeded to lean the mortal shit outta the cylinders. You have to admit that riding a 4-stroke can make a guy lazy and takes a lot of fun out of riding.

Plus the fact that the level of riding skill needed to go fast on a big 4-stroke is so low it get a lot of riders in trouble.

Well said DirtyFilter.
I too rode 2 strokes for many years until 2006, when I bought my first 4t, a new KXF 250.
After one day of riding I was sold on 4 strokes. Much easier and FUN to ride. IMO
Now I have a new 2012 KXF 250 and love it.
No way I'd go back to a 2 smoker.

But like you said, if you like them, buy one, ride it, enjoy, and STFU.

It just gets old having people post on here about how we should
all love 2 strokes, like we forgot what it was like to ride one.

Oh yeah, and spare me the part about it taking more skill to ride one. I don't give a shit about that. I ride to have fun!

But hey, that's just my opinion. lol

I am lazy and riding a four stroke. Shhh....

I rode a 125 and a service 500 last Friday because I remembered how fun they were. The thing is they were not nearly as much fun as I remembered. Then I rode a 250f with an ice block that was now a 304 and had a blast.

I think we remember the good old days as being better than they actually were.

So why have all those chains, gears, valves & buckets, and all that crap spinning around and the piston moving up and down that many more times to get the same power stroke? And what about dwell time? Wouldnt it be easier to achieve stoichiometric combustion when you have slower piston speed and more dwell time? If the distillation curve of the fuel remains the same for both, how can it be optimum for both piston speeds?

Wrong.....it was 650cc when the YZ400 came out.

Don't forget that there were Husaberg 501's, ATK 604's, Husqvarna 610's and a slew of other 4-strokes riding AMA nationals long before the YZ 400F came around.

And BTW, 4-strokes were never "exempt". There were one year exemptions for each MFG. I have raced 4-strokes since 1981 in all levels of AMA competition.

I am not a damn 4 stroke Nazi either though.

I have raced nearly every weekend for over 40 years.

I currently have a YZ 450. a YZ125, a YZ250-2-stroke-MX, a YZ-250-2-stroke-off-road, an SC-500 and two Husaberg FC501's in my garage,

I don't have to remeber the good old days, I live them every weekend and always have.

Now tell these guys to get off of the 360cc deal.

I like the snowmobile.....seems I got several of those toilets now too.....

Nice!! You must have a big garage. lol
But hey, whatever makes you happy, go for it. Very cool to have so many choices though.

I've raced and ridden for 40 years too. Can't say I've raced every weekend though.
Actually, I do a lot of practice riding at private tracks more than I race these days.
I only have so much time I can dedicate to riding mx, even as much as I love it.

So I choose a bike I enjoy. And for me that's a 4 stroke.
I don't know why some guys on here just can't accept the fact that many of us love our 4t's and wouldn't go back if we could.

Btw, I rode a nice 2004 RM 250 about a month ago just for old times sake.
Even though my memory isn't what it used to be, the bike was just like I remembered.... not fun! imho
I'll take my 250f.
