While this is completely true that parts are more expensive for a four stroke, you have to think a little bit more outside the box in my opinion.
-A 450's top end has to be done once a year, it may be around 1500 dollars once alls said and done. A two strokes top end has to be done easily twice a year, if you're fast, thatll be around 1200 dollars by the end of the year.
-You dont neccessarily need a 1200 dollar pipe, in a couple years the sound restrictions wont allow them anyways it seems.
-A 450 requires simple 93 octane pump gas, a total of around 7$ to fill up the gas cans we all use (unless gas goes down). A 250 two stroke requires an octane of above 100, so race fuel is around 70$ for a 5 gallon container x however many times you have to buy more race fuel.
Personally, iv always ridden two strokes, (just bought a 450), so im not being biased, but i feel like in gas alone youll be saving the difference at the end of the year.
And in terms of if the bike blows up, do more than enough airfilters (use common sense, i dont think its worth a day of practicing on a beyond dusty track) but of course, shit happens...
We had 2 250's, sold the both and bought one 450. I think the difference in spendatures for the year will be very close if not less expensive.

Sound restrictions won't reduce the cost it will most likely increase. Instead of an empty can hangen off the end of a pipe, it will have to be a very cleverly crafted piece of art to be quiet and not rob tons of HP.
AND when they reduce the sound of a 4Skin, they will be significantly slower.
Big Fat Pig and slower.

You're right though, we should buy 4 strokes because it won't cost as much to put a gallon of gas in it.
Not to give you heck, but I don't see the reasoning.

The reason 4s are rebuilt less is because it sucks to do it and costs way to much.
If you look at the dynamics of a 4s and 2s piston, you will see that due to the 4s having a much shorter piston skirt, there is significantly more lateral force and piston slap.

Neg + Neg = Neg

I just purchased every single part to rebuild my '08 250SX. Piston kit, rod kit, every bearing, every seal, crank keys, complete OEM gasket set, some washers and stuff I probably don't need.

Total cost including 8% state sales tax was $529. I really think that this is all you need to know.
Lol. Works for me.

My personal pet peev, re USA. On TV cop shows, the characters actually say "G S W" for gun shot wound Why??? using the initials on paper -time saving, speaking the initials is five syllables as opposed to three syllables in full - just stupid.
In real life, why do you Brits eat such bland food? Why do you drink warm beer? Wait...............I know that one. Because Lucas made fridges, too. Evil Wink

To hell with two vs. four-strokes. I'm going to join the electric bandwagon just because this argument is getting tiresome and I'm sick of hearing loud assed motors all the time.

Make an electric bike I can ride hard for at least an hour before charging and I'm in.
