Nobody I know at the moment is making a good 81-83 rm pipe. The 83 RM was the same as the 82 but with a heavy crank it was a slow rever the period mod was take 10mm out of the center section below the tank behind the upper pipe mount if your looking for RPM.If your racing the bike bore the stock carb to 35mm and run a yamaha petcock or find a small body 36mm Mikuni BUT the most important thing to do is rebuild the lower stator I replace about 5 a year.
Check electrosport Industries they have the coils.

81 82 are the same. 83 is different in so far as the joint to the silencer is under the seat so an 83 pipe and silencer need to match also the 83 has a longer section that fits in to the exhaust manifold, about 20mm longer. The manifold on the 83 is also different to the 81-82.

The only aftermarket pipe I know of apart from DG is Jemco.

.I'm not sure if you buy cones in a kit and weld it together yourself. Its worth an email. they do or at least did do 81 -83 pipes

If you visit my site http://www.suzuki-rm125.com there is a picture of one fitted to David Reabe bike on my home page. mouse over to see it.

Thanks for the input guys. I'll check into the carb and petcock stuff, sounds interesting. The bike has a complete brand new OEM stator, I went through that last year when restoring it! I checked out that pic of the pipe on your site, does look interesting!

My bike is running pretty good as is, an honestly it doesn't feel that slow to me, but it looks like I'm bumping to ahrma expert this year so I want to make sure I've got it running as good as possible.

While we are spinning yarn, any ideas where to get a stiffer shock spring? Also of note is that I have an '86 RM125 shock on there so I have a plethora of adjustment. I just need a stiffer spring. I've got stiffer fork springs and race tech valves for the front.

I didn't know vintage iron made them. Cool. They look a good price too.
I wonder what the performance would be like.
I reckon they will be quite well made.

Your bike looks fantastic. have you got proper foam spacers under the tank.
If its not spaced off the frame properly the pipe will melt it..

A tip on the shock was to replace the hose with a bigger bore one to stop it fading as quick and make the oil last longer.

More pictures please. Have I seen you post this bike on another site somewhere, did you have it stood on a white plastic cooking oil drum or something like that while you were rebuilding it ?

You can view the restore gallery here:

I've talked to you through email before, probably sent you a pic and yes it was sitting on a white bucket for a bit.

I have OEM Suzuki foam spacers under the tank. I did a full restore using a lot of OEM parts, then changed things a bit out for racing. I just got a new clutch basket I need to install, original was all notched out.

I think I'm gonna order one of those Retro Rocket pipes. They look awesome.

Hey. I know Vintage Iron are downsizing their shop or thats what the rumours are over here in the UK.

My friend ordered and paid for a pipe for her RM400 at the beginning of this month.
Now she carn't get any responce from them via email or phone.
Does anyone know if they are still trading or of any problems.

Thanks
