Ferry was on top of the podium four times during the AMA Supercross Series and took fifth overall. In the AMA Motocross Championship he fared slightly better with eight top-five finishes and took fourth overall for the season. Ferry was also selected to represent Team USA at the Motocross of Nations. The highlight of the year was Ferry's first Moto win at Budd's Creek where he humiliated the competition and straight up beat "The Goat" Ricky Carmichael. To this day Ferry says that it would not have been possible without the finely tuned YZ450F by his factory mechanic and soon to be media mogul Steve Matthes.

Through the dedication and technical expertise of soon to be factory mechanic and life long friend Steve "The Happening" Matthes, Ferry was able to dominate the 1999 Summercross beating 7 Time Supercross Champion Jeremy "MC" Mcgrath
