True, but all of those "No-names" are respectable top riders from their country, Pascal Rauchenecker for example finished 9th I think at the final GP of the season and will probably be a dark horse for next year. A lot of young kids are in the MX2 class at Des Nations that are fast, but unknown in the states/other parts of the world.

The rule works in the actual GP Series. Not the DesNations. No way these guys are among the greatest riders in the world.

Indeed MStock... In the GP's the rule is defensible but at the Motocross des Nation it is total crap!

PS: I'm more for a 4 seasons MX2 limit in the Grand Prix's but this 21y makes the MX1 very stacked!

@Henry Zweers ... At the Grand Prix's it has to be a boys class but at the Motocross des Nations everyone wanna see the 3 best guys of his country. Not the 2 best guys and one under 23 year... You understand my point not??

@The Mx Addict... Same shit, same point. It didn't make the MX2 class at the MXDN good... In the past, old guys switching from 500cc to 125cc was one of the things that made the MXDN cool... Now because of this rule that isn't there anymore.

I don’t like the age-limit rule on the MX2 class. It doesn’t help guys who can’t adapt to a 450 or can’t find a team to get on. The MX2 class runs right alongside the MX1 guys, and to me it’s as prestigious a class. To limit the age rule makes it seem like it’s not for the “real” racers or whatever. I don’t get it—make it open to everyone. Guys like Xavier Boog weren’t ready to go up, but oops, sorry about that, Boogster—you hit the age limit. Good luck in 450s!

The rule exists to fill one 40 rider gate with top talent. It helps the cause but falls way short. There simply is not enough top mx talent on the planet at any one time to have 2 world mx classes, and 2 US National classes both with 40 riders on the gate of similar talent. Maybe a better rule would be to go to timed qualifying and adapt something like the F1 107% rule. If you are 7% slower than the top guy you are out of the event. The average person who see's an event on tv might actual watch it if there was 30 minutes of tight racing for the lead. So what if its a 5 rider gate at some events. Its racing right? Not riding.

As far as the MXoN. Make it 1 rider from each country since many countries do not have 3 top riders regardless of age or bike size. USA would still win most of them but it would make it more interesting.

That is a totally different discussion but in the '80 and '90 you had a full gate but then there was still something to gain for Privateers in the Motocross World Championship. Back in those days you even had 3 classes with 40guys on the gate.

Dude its 2011. Forget about the 80's and 90's. Sorry but there has never been a time that justified a 40 rider gate. Why hold on to what has not worked for over 50 years? Just to provide opportunity to riders who have no chance at winning? Is that good for the growth of the sport? Does that make average people want to watch? What other motorsport is it predetermined that 90% of the field has zero chance of winning and everyone is ok with that? This sport is a world of the have and the have nots. The winner makes millions per year and 10th place makes 50 grand. That is not going to grow the greatest sport on earth.

Actually 100% on the riders on a 40 rider gate have a chance of winning. If you took 35 of those riders away, then those 35 riders would now have a 0% chance of winning, and make 0 dollars.
