with premium pump getting so expensive im considering just paying double and running VP, seems a lot better for valve train and motor life. who uses it, do you like it or have any complaints, what about minor jetting adjustments?
thanks

We only use it when we go to Colorado so we don't have to rejet. It actually works for us. Otherwise it's pump gas at home.

For high altitude it works well. It negates jetting. After running it for a summer and then rebuilding my bike (it was time) I was quite surprised. It left a blue waxy buildup throughout the carb, intake ports and on the manifold. So where does this leave me? Back to pump gas and proper jetting. It has less to do with cost and more to do with this is what the bike was meant for. I cant say if the buildup was safe or not, I do know the bike was not meant to have it, and pump gas doesn't leave anything like that behind.

I would look at running a different high performance fuel, im just not too sure about VP anymore. Perhaps there is a VP rep that could shed more light on this other then my experience.

For the most part the bike ran at high altitude 8000ft as it did at 2800 feet. Ironically I have jetted for pump gas and it runs just the same.

Hope that helps.

Not sure about the 4.2, but the Ultimate 4 from several years back absolutely sucks. Runs great, smells awful but if you let the bike sit for a week or two, the crap completely gums up the carb. Had to remove the carbs from our YZF250and CRF250 and clean them in an ultrasonic cleaner(it was available). The U4 will stink up the whole house just from the fumes seeping out of the bike sitting in the garage. Do your homework, might have to rig a squeeze bottle of pump gas to run through the carb after riding to get the U4 out of the carb before letting it sit. Just my experience.

i checked out the VP Racing site and they redeveloped the early U4 into U4.2 so it supposedly doesnt leave a gummy residue or smell as bad, that was a rather common complaint. ill probly ask some of the guys at the track next time what theyre running cuz it had the sweet toxic smell to it, wich made me think its U4.2 cuz thats the only stuff ive seen locally available, aside from Citgo 110 but i didnt like that stuff

U4.2 doesn't gum up like the old U4 could.

Citgo 110 is just that, 110 Octane which you do not need unless you are running a high comp. piston. U4 (4.2?) was 98 octane, above what you get at the pump, but the main feature of the U4 was that it was oxygenated and gave a 6% increase in power pretty much across the board. That would be 2.0 hp for a 250F and 3.0 hp for a 450. More than you would get from a pipe or many performance mods. Also didn't require rejetting and helped eliminate that off idle bog you'd get with the earlier 4 strokes.

U4.2 - Love it!!! Adds 2 or 3 hp. You have to play with jetting a little and it does leave a white residue in your pipe.

I don't know the horsepower increase but my 15:1 GSXR dragbike engine won't even start on anything less than the VP116. I haven't had a problem with it gumming up but I run the bowls dry after we get back from the track.

Nope... I've been running U4 for three years. You don't see any smoke but the residue builds up inside the exhaust. If I rub my finger inside the pipe, i get a little white film on it. It's almost like white dust. It doesn't seem to cause any problems. Since I started running U4, I've always seen this.

U4.2 isn't a drain fuel, it is carb safe, but we do the same just to be sure. We're a VP dealer so we've tested with many fuels!

One of my friends bought a 55 gallon drum of it and likes it. He's on an '08 YZ250F. I bought 5 gallons of it and have used it the past couple of weekends and I haven't had any issues with it and it seems good. I'm on a 2 stroke.

The white residue someone mentioned is normal for fuels like that. It's present on that above mentioned YZ250F and I even had it in my YZ125 last year.
