If you remember, a few weeks back I asked for RV tips for an upcoming family trip.
While I appreciate the help, we've scratched that plan
It was getting more and more complicated as well as expensive.
I was going to spend way too much time busting my ass driving that thing than getting any R&R.
So, we lucked out
Being we live down the street from Port Canaveral, I lucked out and found a cruise leaving the same day (in a week and a half) on a last minute deal, and the whole thing is way less than the RV rental, the fuckin gas to keep filling it, the food, the blah, blah, blah...

Wife and I did this itinerary alone two years ago, so this time we'll go with the kids.
I am actually excited about all this!

If you get the chance, and can have less hassles, your kids will remember a trip in an RV for a life time.
Have a blast.
With gas going up and up, seemed like it was $100 a week being added on, then wife was getting sketchy about driving it, meaning I'd do all 3k miles alone, and so on and so on

Do you dive?
Snorkel, yeah.
We can go to keys and snorkel or dive, I like for the kids to see life in other places.

In St Thomas we'll take a jitney around the island
and we'll rent a car on St Maarten and go to French side and other beaches and then finish up at Maho Beach
The International airport runway basically butts right up to the beach and starting at about 2pm, the big boys from overseas start landing.
There's a beach bar right there that plays the tower radio on loud speaker and has that day's "heavy schedule" on a chalk board, which is the big planes...so you drink and when they're on approach you go out to beach or turn to watch

There's a small street between the fence and the beach, and between the lanes they built very tall curbing, like 24", so your car is in a "track" but it keeps air from going under and lifting in case you drive by at the wrong time
There is a place called "the baths" that is in BVI. I'm sure they'll have excursion there. Once of the coolest places I've been to in my life. Absolutely incredible beyond words.
You'll have fun no matter what you do on that cruise.

I am pretty much the whole biz, can't just shut it down.
I check mail and surf an hour or so a day.
I'll have my iPhone, so I can do mail on it and that might reduce my lappy time, but the cell time might be crazy.
and yes, the ships (most newer) now have their own cellular (AT&T) system onboard (satellite, I guess)
When I booked on Monday there were no balcony cabins and I got the last oceanview (window) cabin. Called back yesterday to talk to my regular person at Carnival who's always been really helpful and honest and even she said there are no balconies and since they're so booked up, I might as well forget any chance of an upgrade.
Tonight, I was digging around the interweb doing some research (my favorite part of travel) and looking for ship info.
I went to a travel site and put in my ship and dates just to see what the prices were, well lo and behold, there's a balcony cabin!
So I called her up and said "I see it online, on travelocity!"
She replies "I do not see it in my system. Hold on, let me check my supervisors system"
So I wait about 5 minutes and she comes back and says she got it, hang on...
and a minute later "You owe me $240"
SWEET!!
I went from a window cabin, one deck up from the bottom, to a balcony near the top for $120 each for my wife and I (Girls are in separate cabin)
