Anyone know?

And how many pros have actually died racing in the outdoor series?

You really could have worded this better. Btw Godspeed Lichtle.

Not sure about an outdoor, but we did lose a guy at a SX race a few years back.

*Jason Ciarletta '04 San Diego

Here is the story about it from the LA Times:

Not a AMA MX National but, Andy Mcfarlane.. Brett Klien, Nathan Woods. Those were from crashes/neck injuries though.

I was going to say Woods too. The past few years have been devastating.

Thanks, I remember Ciarletta from the San Diego race died. I'm speaking strictly in terms of Outdoor National Series riders who have died at races. I don't remember hearing about a rider dying at am AMA outdoor national before, so I'm curious if Lichtle was actually the first.

Mcfarlane was racing the Australian outdoor series. What race was Nathan Woods racing?

Again, does anyone have any numbers for AMA outdoor nationals?

It's never happened at a US National, as far as I know. Jim West lost his life at a Trans AMA race in 1975.

I'm just listening to Matthes' podcast from last night and he mentioned Jason also as the last rider to die at a pro AMA motocross / supercross race.

CamP, you might right about that. I couldn't find anything after looking for it.

This is a tragic first for AMA Motocross. Jim West was racing a Trans-AMA in 1975 at Saddleback, Jason Ciarletta was in the afternoon LCQ at San Diego, Danny Hamel was racing Baja when a car pulled out in front of him at top speed, Nathan Woods was practicing for a WORCS race, Bob Sloane was racing a GNCC on an ATV when he had a heart attack, Andrew McFarlane was racing an Australian championship...

... Ray Lang at Loretta's Amateur National 2 years back as well. Not a pro, but a "pro" style National, none the less.

And my favorite person of all CMC members was Gary Doggett, he had a heart attack coming off the track of his 1st moto at a Golden State at Glen Helen a few years ago, absolutely crushed me, loved that man. RIP Gary always.

One is too many... Dangerous sport, get the fuck outta here. Broken bones maybe. It's our fault for letting a fierce competitor push himself to death. I'll accept a crash and its consequences... but not ignorance

Heat strokes happen in hot weather. I had one on a roof in 1995. Be careful yes, but be honest. They can happen on earth.

What would be a better way to word it? I thought for a few seconds on it and can't think of a better way. The only problem I have is the Random Capitalization. Smile
