Does anyone know why the top Canons are Temporarily Unavaiable?? Ive found this on a few different sites and was wondering if something was going on with the cameras? or was it the tsunami? or just bad timing?

from the 7d, up they are basically all "unavailable" Usually they would "say out of stock".

I eventually went on there and saw that. I wonder what the deal with that is. I have a 7d coming to replace my 60d and it should be here tomorrow. Mine is coming from Best Buy, and it wasn't easy getting one. They told me it was on backorder so I called around and did some searching, and there was ONE in the state of Wisconsin, so it's being transferred to the closest Best Buy for me.

That's, from what I understand, just a rumor with no solid ground. I think they go through 3 year cycles, or close to it anyways. I've done a bunch of research on when a replacement for the 7d will be out, and most folks claim (although they don't know for sure) that it'll be a year to 1 1/2 years.

Do you have some solid info by chance? I picked mine up about an hour ago.

If the tsunami hit the factory i dont expect anything new for a while. I noticed the 8-15mm fisheye has no release date now too. it was scheduled for beginnning of may.

You are correct, just a rumor. Also correct, canon usually uses a 3 year update. I bought my 7d and 28-135 for 1400 online, no tax, free shipping. I thought that it was due to another model coming in and rumors. I just checked the site and it is now 1699. So I am not sure now. Could be because of lack of supply due to the earthquake. My assumption for the low price was due to new model. The price also dropped in stores, Best buy dropped to 1699 when I purchased at 1400 for the kit. I guess I just got a good price.

I'm assuming those two lenses are virtually identical in most aspects. My other lens is a 70-200 f2.8, so I really don't have much for glass. I didn't use my 40d much last year and pretty much forgot how to manually set it up, so the 7d is making me learn all over again. No cheating with this puppy, unless I go full Automatic or Creative Auto. I think when shooting moto, I mainly shot in Aperture Priority mode if I remember correctly.

I got mine at the beginning of the SX season and took all the west cost SX races with it. I like it, the images out of camera use very little sharpening so you have to sharpen them a bit. At the time you could get either lens as the "kit" lens, I chose the 28-135 because it is a full frame lens instead of an ef-s lens on the 18-135 because I plan to upgrade to full frame camera some day.

Auto focus is very good and is fast. I use manual if taking portrait using soft box lighting but for moto I use either Aperture, shutter speed or P modes. I have shot video and it is very good, though not so good for camcorder type shots since auto focus is not continuous in video mode,

There are some great articles on the internet to set the camera up for video, do a google search.

The only thing I don't like about the camera is that knob that changes from aperture to shutter speed mode is easily changed and you must pay attention. I took several shot in the wrong mode which ruined the picture.

I mostly shoot one shot at a time instead of the high frame per second pray and spray mode but have tested this mode and it works pretty well. I think you will like the camera.

The 70-200 2.8 lens is great for moto, make sure you keep that lens for sure. Canon makes nothing like it for moto unless you go with the pro cameras, but they are out of budget for me and the 7d is good enough for me and you cannot beat the price even at 1700. Good luck

Canon will change the picture mode knob to a locking one (like the 60d) for a measly $100. They should do it for free, damn it!!!

I agree, it should have been done from the beginning. Nikon has a button that prevents it from accidentally being bumped. I have only bumped it a couple times so I will not be paying money for it.

Yeah, I was about to get my Canon 7D 18-135 two months ago for $2000 at a local store, but I didn't have the money. So we went back last weekend and it cost $2399 w/o tax...

Wow, those prices have gone up. I have heard that some retailers still have good prices. If you just need the camera body it is $1579.

I have never bought from these guys but it is a USA model with us warr and comes with all the accessories (no lens). I am sure glad I got mine for cheap, I checked the receipt and the total was 1550. I think if I would have bought the camera only it would have been 1400, my mistake, but still a great price.
