We were talking about Jefferson and David McClain and someone on the old Motodrive (now Vital) about you being the first black expert racer and several of us remembered your name.

It may have been transferred to this site, but we remembered you from back in the '70s.

Be looking forward to some of those 'ol school pics.

McClain was from Texas. He rode Nationals around the mid 1980's, earned national #29 in 1985 I think. Mainly rode the 500 cc class. The April 2008 issue of Racer X magazine did a good story about black MX racers, although they focused on just 2 guys Andrew Jefferson and Brian Thompson (East coast rider that rode nationals in the early 1980's). After I read the article, it immediately made me think of you. I had not seen you race in over 25 years and had almost forgotten your name.

I can still remember watching you up at E Street - railing a sand berm at warp speeds and blasting everyone standing around there with a massive roost of sand ! Great memories.

Post those pictures. We wanna see 'em.

Anyone got any pics/materials from the pro events in 77 or 78? I rode both of those but the only things I still have around are these. The bottom is a t-shirt that, along with a bunch of other old t's was made into a quilt.

Dean Shultz, brother Darrell Shultz and Larry Wosick.

Thought you'd remember Darrell since he rode lots of local E, Riverpark and Plymouth races as a 250/Open Expert while the both of you were still racing locally and he became our 500 National Champ in '82. Bobby Myers had a good vid showing Shultz winning that 500 title under excruciating pain and circumstances. Might still be on this site; not sure.

Wosick had factory rides and was pretty darn good; just had some bad luck.

Lookin' forward to your pics.

That is Darrel, I really didnt see Dean or Larry very much. Who was the younger kid that ran around with Larry who became pretty fast and got a fox ride. Was it Ricky Ryan? You know who was really fast was Jim Lesnieski he was blue plate #1 for years. I heard he crash and almost took his nose off his face and he quit after that. That guy rode a 250 Ossa remember. That Dan Ferrallo was fast. Andy do you remeber the guys from Reno?

I remember Berluti. Robbie Hadlock...I'm not sure if he was racing after you finished racing. I'd know 'em if you got names I'm sure. Got a couple on the tip of the ol' tongue.
I use to see Randy Losh a lot, Danny Turner shows up every so often to ride; not often though. Ferraro I thought was real fast; I see one of the Greener brothers every so often. Don't remember which one. Been two years.
I go visit Jan Houtermans(Shultz ex wrench) periodically to bench race and find out about some of those '70's experts like Lesniewski, Losh, Tony Tamagni, Doug Hart. Eric McKenna still races periodically; still fast.

Remember Tim Aston? He was Team Green rider that was prob a top mini guy when you were in expert class and should've been a top racer. Got into a street bike accident and lost a leg; he tried to continue to race and did win a moto or two when Tyson Vohland was a top 125 Expert, but it was too much.
Dean Matson's dad George told me he passed away last year. RIP Tim.

Ricky Ryan had I believe a major heart attack and numerous bypasses in '06 or '07; he was one fast dude on 125s....and winning that Daytona '87SX...he raced Suzooks past his prime making some good contingency money with Matson; Ryan finally quit racing think around turn of century.

Coupe is still faster than shit; especially on the older vintage and Post Vintage bikes. He's got a collection of old Cycle News papers and magazine from the day unless he made a deal with 'em...

Then I guess you would remeber Sabrina Hiebarger probable wrong spelling, boy was she good looking. Shit i was about 14 or 15 and could wait to see her. LOL What ever really happened to Jim Lesniewski? Ya Tim pasted away, he was really fast. He would have made a name for himself with the big boys. Andy give me acll sometime love to talk to you about the old days. Just shoot me me an email and i will send you my number. I might have your email i will check. I remember I used to race againist Fred Merkle in mini bikes 1/4 flat track he was so fast.

Is this the Myers who used to ride macios in the 250 and open expert class. If you are you were a beast. I mean that in a good way. No one rode like you, I never seen anyone just sit down and hold it wfo through the rough sections. You just muscled the bike.

Bob I am really glad to hear. When I was racing back then there a few guys that I truely respsect and thought that they were a quality person with great character. Pat Ricther is one of them and you were to. Bob your were a honest no bullshit guy that treated everyone the same. I just wanted you know that, but really I was very very happy that you didnt ride 125's. Shit i tried that sit down style i crashed my brians out, actually i tried alot of styles and got the same results. LOL I wont be going to Hangtown just isnt the same as Plymouth. I hope you have great time.
