MX vs ATV Alive 1st impression? I can honestly say I'm faster in real life than the game.

The game is just very different than Reflex, whereas the other games were more evolutionary from title to title. I've got about 8 hours into it, and can't say anything about online since I'm on PS3, but it's got more of an arcade feel in some aspects and real life in others. The flippin off or self-cheer or whatever is ridiculous, just silly. The cornering is cool-you can really get into the turns and throw some roost, and when you get too hot on the exit you drift out. jumpings a little weird-you kinda pop up on some jumps and just drop out of the sky, not a fan of the seatbounce feature its kinda awkward. I like the sensation of speed with the blur when you get cookin. The clutch actually doing something is a nice feature, but was hard to get used to. Once you get better parts on your bike its way more fun, but getting there is a chore. You just can't try to play the game like it's the old game and get anywhere cause it's pretty much apple and oranges. Still on the fence about the whole thing really.

So, after work I picked it up, I'm only a few hours into it but:
Cons: When you land, there is little to no momentum. It feels like an arcade game. Only 2 tracks right away? It just doesn't feel like flows like older games, such as untamed, it's more like stop and go. Also, the tuff blocks still weigh a thousand pounds. Celebrating or flipping someone off or whatever...yea?

Pros: The turning is better, as well as not flying off the track at random times. The blur thing when you get going is pretty cool. The A.I. riders are a little more legit and fun to race.

If they really wanted kids and non moto people to get into this game, wouldn't you think they'd make the controls easier? Adding pre load is fine for us addicts, but the controls already seem difficult with out that for first timers. Kinda like NHL 11 with NHL 94 controls, so anyone could pick it up and play.

First impressions, disappointing. reflex was much better no question. Unsure how the game got passed for sale after having such a great game with reflex. All reflex need was some new tracks and some little tweaking and it would have been great. Really unfortunate when the new game is much worse than the old one.
X2 Step backwards is my opinion. Graphics look cheesy (arcade like), the rider physics are terrible. I really dont see myself playing this one much.

Any chance there will be new DLC for reflex?

I almost scored it today. I pulled into Best Buy and then thought to myself "Let me go home tonight and read the reviews first". Glad I did. The Cons I have read would piss me off and Im not gonna drop 40 stamps for something that might just be OK. Hearing about goonish riding style, weird bikes, snow tracks, gay taunts, no career modes, racing 2 tracks over and over again to level up for hours, and no supercross. Pointless to drop the dough just to have gear that looks sick. I know my nephew will get it. Next time Im at my brothers house I will try it, but this sounds like a horrible game!

Gaming companies need to play the PS1 version of Supercross Circuit. Best MX game ever made! Real tracks indoors and out, real bikes, good physics, bike mods that make a difference to the bike and 2 PLAYER SEASONS!

lmao, no wonder they made leveling up take so long... people are saying you can buy a DLC code or whatever to unlock everything. ha. what a scam.
they better release supercross, and quick. you guys think this place is a hate fest, you should see some of the posts on the mx vs atv website.

I'm going to wait for the supercross and more dlc before I make an honost impression. It was very frustrating until I got to level 10.

Pros:
cornering
bike sounds
momentum generated by using the clutch
slight blur at speed

Major Cons:
yelling at riders and waving when you pass them. I'm having a VERY hard time getting past this, since it also affects control.
only 2 HUD options. All or nothing. Very frustrating. Turning it off removes crash avoidance which affects actual gameplay.

Cons I can deal with:
"get ready, get set" Very arcade-like. Reminds me of "Motocross Go!"
no sx tracks out of the box (they sponsored the sx series for goodness sake!)
stock bikes appearance
riding style- reminds me a bit of Kyle Cunningham, which is my positive spin on it
short tracks- good idea, bad execution
snow covered tracks
having to play the same two tracks for hours before unlocking another. We didn't need a lot right away, but more than 2.

Dirt 2 was unreal.

Has there been an answer from thq or whoever made the game as to why there is no career mode? Ive never made a video game but I sure wish I could. Start as an amateur, then lites class, then big bike glass. Have real tracks, do supercross then nats and try to be the greatest ever. Seems like they need to get some more opinions from the mx community.

I have not played Alive so I'm not going to bash it and I'm sure I'll have fun playing it, I had fun playing reflex for a long time. It just seems they need to do better and make a game like everyone wants. Just do better!

I feel sorry for the guys that made this game. They put in all that work, and right away, you guys tell everyone not to buy it becuase it's a piece of shit. I know the truth is the truth, but damn can't you put it in a nicer way?

Just to be clear, if you like online racing it's a great game. The physics are great, but like reflex it takes a while longer to get your speed. I'm still learning it and the bike is already flowing pretty good and railing the turns, your speed develops, but i couldn't tell you what I'm doing different. If they release a seasons worth of SX tracks that will be awesome. I have some gripes, but I would take the game back if the paid me extra.

Dude, this game is for sure worth buying.. The quickest way to up your experience points is to:
1. turn off all the assist.
2. race "all time"
3. race the figure 8 short track.
I started playing the game at 3 pm and got my Experience to 22 by 4:30, And I even motoed a bunch on the other tracks. I was a little po'ed that they give you the quads 450s before dirtbikes, but I can rail pretty damn good on a super modded 125. The physics are different, but for sure better.
And for the record the cheesy waving at people hasn't messed me up once surprisingly. I haven't played it since 4:30 cause I know I'm going to wanna play it for a long time if I do haha.

I agree. When I first played it, I thought it sucked. Then I turned off all of the assists and started leveling up and its getting awesome. I think that it's the most realistic and best mx game in history bar none. I have been working on the sx tracks and finally put one lap together. Its super hard, but I like games like this. I seriously don't see how some of you guys hate it so much.

you're definitely entitled to your opinion.

for me, the mod250f is just awesome. online feels good, i've yet to have problems getting into rooms or problems with the rooms not starting. i've spent a lot of time playing and i really like it.

i'm just tired of the endless bitching from some of these guys. i hope you enjoy it for the sole fact that i think it's a great game and i can see the improvement.
Garet, the simple fact that you have not said a single negative or critical thing about the game...is beyond me.

I understand that you are appreciative of the opportunity you were given and don't want to sound ungrateful by criticizing their work...that's completely understandable, but you need to start telling it like it is. Isn't that why they choose you in the first place?

I totally agree that some of these guys are being way too harsh too soon, the game is good! ...But the overt defense/cheerleading of the game sounds so pussified coming from you, it's not even funny. Regardless of the many improvements they've made... there is some glaringly obvious errors, glitches, and dumb shit in this game.

Can't wait to hear your write up on the weekend and the game...hopefully it's not as sugar coated as your opinions have been thus far.

Wow these reviews are confusing. Most hate it, some love it. I would have been happy with a debugged Reflex with more tracks amd better on line play. Think I will just hire this one first.

So sounds to me like most of the guys on here just dont know how to play the game, i mean how can one person take 7 hours to get to level 13 or what ever and you get to level 22 in under 2?

I thought it was a little weird that it would take so long to get to level 10 even, and when Elliot said that a good player could get to level 20 in just over an hour, now i believe him.

Cheers FIREfish!

Alright. I think the basic playing of the game is awesome. I like the physics, it's definitely a bit more of a challenge than past games, and the bar banging (while having a horrible name) is actually kind of cool. One you get past the minor details (number plate color, guy is too big, wrist doesn't twist the throttle, etc.), it's overall a good game. However, there are two things that I would really appreciate an honest answer from Checkerz or someone else from the developing team:

1. At what point in time did you think that it would be a good idea to make the riders turn around and yell at each other? It's distracting and I don't think I, in a race or practice, or anyone else I've ever seen ride/race has ever done something like that.

2. At what point in time did you think that making the short tracks cross would be a good idea? The short tracks are surprisingly FUN. Really fun. However, I get a bit aggravated when I get plowed in the side by a rider at a cross.

Once again, I really do like the game. It's fun and those are really my only two bitches about it. Oh, and a working, semi-realistic pre-load system? That's pretty cool.

Yep. Took me about an hour and a half. And it almost simulates a beginners abilities and as you rank up, your talents get better and you are able to go faster. I love it.

I don't know what the haters are talking about. This is the Best MX game yet. I played it at a friends house on a PS3 and within 15 min I stopped playing it like Reflex and started playing it more and more as if I was really riding.

Leaning mid to fwd and not hanging out over the back. ( you wheelie if you lean off the back to far.)
Dragging the bake and not locking it up. (It is a analog button.)
Hitting the lines and not riding around the outside. (although you can find faster lines than the main ones)
Turn off all the assistance.

It also did the coolest thing, while railing a line faster and faster I actually High sided from hitting it too hard. Every time I hit it like that I high sided. Backed it down a touch with a little back brake and I hit it fine.

I don't see how you guys can pay attention to the rider position as you need to concentrate on hitting your lines.

I got to level 7 and I'm competing at the all star level. Not winning at that level but I'm blowing them away on the pro level.

Can anyone jump the sx triple on a 125 at the Stewart Compound (South SX)?

I tried for like twenty minutes and the only way I could get it was jumping lines to get to it...

Ok now that im @ work, im going to give my full review in the list of pros and cons
Im lvl 14 now...this is on a ps3..(since the psn is down i cant get bubbas pad, so i cant say for his house)
Pros-
-the bike does handle better with the parts upgrades
-the turning/ ruts peform much better than reflex's
-the bike no longer slides in corners where it should be griping
-the bar banging is a cool add-on
-bike sounds kickass
-i like the detailed chain, it looks good.
-kinda cool for stewy to tell you whats goin on @ certain lvls
Cons-
-track designs...a big WTF on a few outdoor tracks!!!
-i feel like i bought a parcial game for 43 bucks.
-the bikes performance is stagnant after you get all the upgrades....(in reality different companines produce vary different performance parts its not just a different sticker)
- the bikes brakes do not react fast enough.
-narrow tracks
- the rider doing gay gestures( this needs to be turned off immadiately) or atleast have a patch with an option
-the throttle hand does not move, but the guy make gay gestures idk.
-no more tear-offs? Wtf??(but instead has the gay gesture)
-The LEVEL GRIND is fucking steep...i found myself not wanting to really play after about lvl 5
-the level reward system is not enough to keep you playing....you have to want to which is bad imo
-the black spots on the track, you cant see shit on a few tracks
-too many snow levels (who legitimately has tracks in the snow, all the time?)
-NO PENALTY for getting landed on...(i can kinda understand, with the bar-banging action being so close)
- when your hauling ass, something in the game cause a immediate slow down upon hitting a jump, its weird
-even with all assists of, the bike does not whip for the life of the game, and when it does...you cannot bring it back

Idk, why im still playing it but i find it fun lol
Im hoping sx will be godlike because the nationals will only have a appeal for about a week for me.
