I searched a lot and was going to go with mx tech lucky gen 2 carbon. But they’ve discontinued that. Would just the lucky spring conversion be good enough for vet 30+ B class rider? I’m 180 and every time I under/over jump I’m bottoming out hard. Also I’ve found the limit of trust in the front end in turns and needing something better. I seen they also offer a raven but not sure how much better it really is.. So what’s your experience with the lucky? Also should I get rear shock revalved or just a stiffer spring? Thanks
I had a 2017 250sx and ran the stock spring at 155lb. That was with a TBT revalve.
When I got my 2018 250SXF, I ran a set of luckys gen 1 with the stock rear spring and the fork cartridges were an improvement over stock.
'Lost trust in the front' could be because the balance is off; too low in the back and pushing the front in the turns.
Double check your sag numbers and bump up the shock spring rate based on those numbers and as needed.
Use your clickers and spring rates to balance the bike and get a better reading of how the stock forks are working.
MX-tech cartridge inserts all seem to get great reviews, so I wouldn't hesitate on using them if you can't iron things out with your stock Xact carts.
I have a 2023 GG MC250, same basic bike. Pretty sure the GG has softer valving in the forks. In any case, they were very soft for MX, especially big jumps and G-outs. I just did the Ride JBI DIY valving kit in my forks and am really happy with it. Massive improvement. Much better bottoming resistance, much better front end feel/grip, better hold up and less diving/pitching and reduced most of what people dont like about air forks. I also have a set of 6500's from JBI in another bike and I'll tell you this valving on the stock AER's is pretty darn close. Definitely great bang for the buck.
I thought for the MXT, the Lucky's were more off road and the Ravens were more for MX? One reason I kind of wrote those off my list is there seem to be only certain shops that tune them and I am a DIY'er and they require a few new special tools.
I’m really thinking about the the 6500’s from jbi now. But man it’s even more expensive. Although I haven’t seen a single bad thing about it. And then there’s Enzo kyb conversion and I’m sure that’s out of my price range.
I definitely need a shock spring for my weight. I have 160 psi in fork and I’ve ran sag everywhere between 103 and 105 to try and get it dialed in.
I had a Lucky carbon kit in my 250sx. They felt very similar to the SSS. If you ride just moto I would do the Raven kit, if you are 50% or more woods I would do the Lucky kit then. I ordered mine through N2 Dirt and they answered all of my questions and revalved for me before installing.

Mx-tech looks like it's only a few hours away, or choose anyone else that's close by. Saves on shipping and suspension is subjective, usually setup for local conditions.
Choose someone local and see what they recommend. You might find a classic fork and shock revalve are all you need (around $300f&r plus parts and spring). Your local tuner will be able to buy Raven, 6500 or KYB cartridges if that's what you agree you need.
Ok I’ll order the wp 6500 from mx tech if they carry that since they are closer. I’ll just try the valving that comes with it to start and see how I like it.
I hear that raven is also for woods and their blackjack is for mx. Rather not spend any more than what a 6500 is right now.
Any difference on brand of rear shock spring?
At 180 lbs, you should be pretty good with the stock 42NM spring. I am 185 and I put a 45NM on and I am not sure I will be able to get my sag numbers right. Seems I am at that point where I am barely putting any preload at all on the spring. Was thinking of trying to split the difference and get an aftermarket 4.4Kg spring, but then you have to be careful what you buy because many of them are shorter and require extra spacers.
What is your static sag measurement? KTM recommends 35mm
I'd be interested to hear if MX-tech will work with 6500 carts. I'm sure they know how to, but they went to the trouble of building their own inserts ...
17 FC350. Tried several different routes before settling on Blackjack cartridges. Love them.
The 6500's are really good too, and the Epica cartridges are fantastic with externally adjustable preload, and tunable bladder pressure.
Also, I have found that the 21+ AER forks can be made to work really well, often with a Gold Valve or JBI kit. The early air forks are poo, but the newer stuff can work well.
I went with the 6500's and trax shock for my 23 300sx from JBI and I'm east coast. Definitely the best suspension setup I have had to date and I have used most of the local companies previously.
Good to hear. I just found out that my local ktm dealer can get me the 6500’s with springs and shock spring so I’m going to go that route. Feel it out how it is then re valve if needed. How’s the cornering compare?
I’m gonna save a few hundred compared to black jacks that way I can have the 6500’s revalved to get them where I need if needed. Hoping it’ll be good enough for a local B rider.
I'm absolutely in love with how the bike does everything now.
From everything I have read and been told the valving the 6500's come with is very stiff.
I did the diy kit from JBI. He revalves them and sends them to you ready to install. Can't really go wrong.
Awesome.I’m going to pick everything up from spykes ktm once they receive the springs. Going to test it how it comes first and then decide if it’s too stiff. Can’t wait
