Thread size/pitch steering nut?

Does anyone know the thread size and pitch on the top steering stem nut on a 2016 kx 450

Take some calipers and measure the outside diameter of the male threads. That will get you started. Then youll only have to figure out the pitch. Hardware stores usually have things on the walls you can use to find the thread size

You can measure pitch with the calipers (but with being a nut, might be tricky.. a metric tape measure or something similar that you can fit inside the nut may be better)

Pitch will be the distance in mm from one thread to the next thread "on center" so to speak. Make sure you're being accurate, as pitches can vary by as little as 0.25mm. But usually it's 0.5mm increments. ie, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0

They make thread gauges for this that are cheep and very accurate. You may also be able to call your dealers parts dept. and get that info.

Brain fart. You can use the calipers to measure the distance on the threads on your stem too, as they'll match the nut (obviously). Easier than measuring the threads in the nut.

As mentioned by Aciddreamer, just put the calipers on the stem and that will be the thread size. For example, 14mm = M14. Say your thread pitch turns out to be 1.5... then your nut is a M14x1.5.

I know Kawi's parts description just called it a 24mm nut - which is obviously the outside hex size

It's a 32mm OD. 24 would be the ID.

M24x3 would be a normal thread. I doubt they use a fine thread for that nut.
