Having shifter problems

I brought a new swarp 9 shifter for my bike, (99 rm) to add some flare to my bike. And for whatever reason I'm having issues shift through gears, the shifter seems stuck. The stock shifter worked fine, prior id have to press down hard on it but it did go through the gears. Any idea what the cause might be?

If the shift lever is installed so that it makes contact with either the frame or other parts and does not go through it's full motion, it will seem to be stuck in a gear or hard to shift. So make sure of this before doing anything else.
Also if , when the new shifter was installed it was pushed on too hard you may have knocked the shift shaft out of position on the parts behind the clutch and thus will not shift correctly. To get at this you will need to drain the coolant and oil and remove the large clutch side cover. You may even need to remove the clutch basket as well , but you did not state which RM you have.

Okay I'm going to take a look at to see if if knocked the shaft out of position Also I have a 99 rm125

There is a spring that wraps the shift shaft and sometimes when a new shifter is installed it will knock this spring off on one or both sides and thus it will not shift correctly. This spring forces the shift shaft back into the ready to shift position after each shift. Look at parts 26 & 30 in this drawing.
