XR500R engine swap with XL500s?

OK Picked up a bunch of junk yesterday. XT500, 85 kx125, 82 IT250, 80 xl500s, and an 81 XR500r.

The head had been taken off the 500r and the bike was left outside. I'm pretty damn sure the engine in the 500s will run. Anyone know if they are basicly the same?

Same cases, same basic cylinder, some differences in gear ratios and maybe in the valves.

I believe it was 81 when the 500R came out with the reed valved head. I have used an earlier non reed head on an 81 500R a few years back. The 500S should drop right into the R chassis.
