I think it makes sense to not let 8 year olds wear images or symbols of weapons and drugs on them.

Well I finally agree with you on something. Symbols of drugs should not be worn by 8 year olds.
But having a 8 year old look up to a american soldier and wanting to put a plastic army guy on his hat in support of that is perfectly fine. He did not put those things on his hat to show everyone that he likes guns, or that he thinks it is ok to bring them to school.
Zero tolerance is crap plain and simple. It takes any responsibilty of decisions off the school adminstrators. They no longer have the ability to look at each incedent individually. Just look at the book and make a decision. The liberal mindset just continues to amaze me with it's stupidity.
Don't even get me started with the whole bullying crap that out there now.

We all know there are toy soldiers that dont have weapons, it was not the soldier that was the issue, it was the weapon, which totally makes sense.

If you dont have a toy soldier without a weapon, you could have just cut the weapon off. There are very simple solutions to this, you have to be consequent with rules like these, certainly when it is with very young kids.

If that is the case and if you are that sensitive, you could just cut the flag pole off like you could do with any weapon on a plastic toy soldier, problem solved.
