Fixing to open a jewelry repair shop, ordered a 1900 lb safe that will be delivered to my front door on a lifegate off the truck. Trucking company will set safe on ground and it is up to me to move it inside my shop area. My plan is to set the safe up on a pallett jack and push/pull/roll it about 25 feet to where I want to set it. My question to anyone on the board is: Do you have any suggestions on a different way or method? My second question is: Once I get in where I want it, how do I set in off the pallett jack onto the floor?
Hope someone has had some experience moving heavy objects and can offer some insight that may help me. Thanks!

best I remember seeing safe moved by pros, they had 3 lengths of PVC pipe the width of the safe, maybe 1" diameter? - a size small enough that it didn't get crushed under the safe. One of them rocked the safe up to get one under, then pushed safe over it, adding another PVC pipe roller as the safe rolled over the first one. Once the safe is up on two, they just rolled it, placing the third roller in front of the safe before it rolled off the back roller. Keep picking up and replacing the rollers as you go along...

First of all - is your floor rated to hold that weight. - 2nd, get some help - 3rd, cut enough short pieces of 2 X 4 to support the safe while you roll the jack out from under it. Don't know how much room you've got around it but a pinch bar would allow you pry the safe up so you can remove the wood blocks and set it in place. Just my .02 without seeing what you have there.

Thanks for the replys, may have to get some ply board and steel rollers or castors. This is a major task for me, just getting worried about it.

I've moved a 5 drawer fire safe lateral filing cabinet up two flights of stairs before. We had about six guys and a heavy duty dolly. It might not have been 1900 pounds, but it would have been pretty damn close. It was a pretty easy task with enough guys pitching in.

I would not buy a safe from a company who would not put it where I wanted it.

If you get one heavy enough you could just leave it on the sidewalk. Wink

Seriously. It's amazing what 20 bucks and lunch can do.

Hey larry, the company I bought the safe from does offer inside delivery and set-up for an additional fee. But since I an operating on a tight budget, I can rent a pallett jack and pay some friends to assist me cheaper than the rate offered by the company. I understand where your logic and thinking are coming from, but I know what my budget is and I am sticking with it.
