So, I went in to get my motor oil changed and they said that I need the following work:

- Transmission fluid change
- Radiator flush
- Power steering fluid change
- Fuel system flush
- Fuel filter change

It's and 00' Nissan Frontier with 93,000 miles.
I bought it 2 years ago with about 72,000 miles on it and haven't done any of the above since I have had it.

What do you guys think is necessary?

Tranny fluid? Maybe but I wouldn't let a quick lube place touch the tranny. The rest is bunk.

I'm hoping for an 8 pager. I figure 8 pages equals two or three good responses.

Not a bad idea to do the tranny, and the p/s. Antifreeze? ya couldnt hurt. The fuel system flush? naw snake oil. For piece of mind you could dump a can of seafoam or 44k in the tank. Fuel filters should be changed regularly.

Look at the fluids to be sure, hell smell em too. The previous owner may have already had it done.

Look up a pm schedule (also in owners manual) most vehicles call for these services at 100,000 miles

that's what I was thinking. Fuel filter can get clogged and it's usually pretty easy to replace if it's inline. I've always heard you don't mess with a transmission unless something is going wrong.

But, tranny's...we do have an expert here, maybe he will chime in.

If you haven't ever changed transmission fluid before 100,000, then don't mess with it. Worked at a shop in high school and transmissions that had been neglected would not shift with new trans fluid, even though they were fine with the old stuff. This was in 92 so most of those cars with 100k were 80's model cars, maybe that doesn't hold true anymore.

Now "tranny's"............probably a good idea to never mess with them........I wouldn't know.

Most newer vehicles call for a trans filter/ fluid renew at a hundred thousand. Personally I'd most likely go with just a filter if the fluid is still relatively clean, with a filter change you'll replace only the fluid in the pan which should help replenish the protective qua;itys of the trans fluid.

I've heard a few of the horror stories with trannys (um transmissions) failing after a flush. All of the ones I had direct knowledge of had glitches before the service

Little bit of overkill there resevoir tip. Heres another little tip. When changing brake pads pinch the rubber line and open the bleeder screw before pushing the piston back in the caliper, you'll get rid of the nasty crap in the claiper instead of pushing it back into the lines. ( I dont feel like fixing my typos)

What the hell one more.

The torque or dorque converter holds more fluid than the pan. And yes subarus have a spin on trans filter

I remember when the first quick change oil place opened up here. I always changed my own oil and I've changed oil in my parents and grandparents rides since long before I was old enough to drive. Its just something we grew up doing around here plus my grandpa owned a garage. I had a Toyota pickup and I pulled into this place. I figured what the hell I'll be lazy. Well they come up from down below and show me a drain plug that was stripped all to hell. Said it was that way when they took it out and I would have to buy another one so they could change my oil. I looked at the plug and kinda chuckled. I know what my plug looked like and I knew that wasn't it. Besides that I knew I did not strip it out. He informed me that they sold plugs there for $20 and they would get it taken care of. I got out of the car and walked to the garage door with the stripped plug in my hand. The guy walked over and I called him a no good cheating SOB and told him to put my plug back in my truck and change my oil before i call the Effin cops on them. I turned around and threw the plug across the street and over the hill. Hopped in my truck got my bill and off I went. I talked to three or 4 people who sent their wives there while they where at work that ended up buying a plug.

unfortunately there is quite a bit of that kind of bullshit going on. The white napkin with (insert misc fluid) on it is a classic. Fuckin BG even makes a little white tray with dimples on it as an upsale tactic.

Tiki look for nitrogen to be the next big thing in changing the air in your tires.
