Got this in the mail yesterday and it made me think of those that claim that the illegals come across the border for the jobs that no on else wants. And it made me think of all the 7 and 8 dollar an hour jobs I see in the local paper. And it made me think of how much money the illegals standing on the street corners make (Ive heard from $10-12 an hour) (correct me if Im wrong)

This was a flyer from the United States Postal Service

HELP WANTED
Substitute Rural Carriers
NON - CAREER POSITION - NO CAREER BENEFITS
Bonsalll, Fallbrook and Valley Center areas ( these are towns in so/cal - doug)
"all postal positions require frequent heavy lifting, continuous standing and bending"

DO YOU LIKE FRESH AIR, PEOPLE AND EXERCISE? IF SO, A SUBSTITUE RURAL CARRIER POSITION MAY BE FOR YOU

* Temproary Relief Carrier - salary $13.05 per hour.
* Duties- sort, load/unload vehicle and deliver mail
* Work Schedule: Daytime hours- Provide Saturday relief coverage along with additional days based on office needs. This is a relief/on-call position.
* Requirements:Two years driving experience and a good driving record.
* Vehicle requirements: You must utilize your own vehicle with an automatic transmission and a front bench seat is preferred. Milage paid at .53 per mile

Now Ive read that in so/cal one needs $15/hr just to pay the average rent. And this is just part time and you have to beat up your own car. And you have to pay TAXES!! So Im thinking it might be easier just to get a good tan, call yourself Jose and go stand on the corner and work for $10/hr "under the table" and actually come home with more money. And the upside is you dont have to use your own car or your own tools.

At anyrate the whole deal sorta struck me funny. Always hearing about high paid government employees with the great benefit packages.

Can you imagine sitting around day after day staring at your phone waiting anxiously for it to ring so you can run out and make some coin? Id bet what we have here is another job no American wants because it pays so low and has no benefits, well other than the vitiamin D you get from sunshine. Yet an illegal cant do it unless they do it with a stolen ID/Drivers Licence/ Car registration etc.

I don't believe anyone could live on that money. Maybe in valley center. But thats about it. I do know that the post office in solana pays 17.50 to work part time and sell stamps. Yes, I have already looked into working there. I could walk to work.

They do the exact same thing here. Those aren't actually "government" positions.........you're not actually a postal employee, it's a contract position. It's geared more towards somebody looking for a part time gig............the rural contract sub positions around here are real popular with the college students and spouses looking for a few bucks. Mostly, it's doing Saturday mail delivery, or covering the regular route driver's vacation/illness whatever.

Around here, the route will be around 50 miles or so, and it'll take about 10 hours.......so a college kid can make about 150.00 in one day...........not to bad a gig.

That's just a part time job. It's not a career. It's something for retirees or people that just want to pick up a little extra cash.
