I think we need to end the disease that is knives! There are just too many knives in the world and I dont understand why Americans have this need to feel safe with all these knives. I want to live in a society where there are no knives and nobody needs to be worried about being stabbed. This knife disease is horrible.

Exactly, who wants a society where you need a knife in order to protect your family, or a gun, where do you draw the line, soon you will be so scared you feel the need to get a bazooka, then a tank. Why are you so fond of being scared?

Unfortunately many people claim they own guns because they are scared for their families safety, sounds horrible. I would want a bazooka too, not for protection though, but because it would be fun to try one out.

It really is a different cultural climate here in the US than other countries. I noticed in my many visits to Taiwan and China, the lack of racial/ethnic disparity seemed to allow the masses to align their needs with those around them relatively easily, compared to America. Our diversity creates a lot of socio-economic tension, unlike anything you'd experience in a relatively homogenous society. We have some very bad crime rates here...and the roots lie in the lack of cultural development within our borders. Without that development/advancement, respect for others is rare to the point of being almost lost.

Also, being a bit of a Libertarian myself, I'd be afraid if the only ones who had guns were the military and law enforcement. The government can start getting away with some pretty nasty things...

So how long did you live in the US and where? Just curious to know where you lived to have such opinion of the US.

I used to live in California, specifically in Santa Monica, LA and in West Holllywood, LA, I lived there for about 3,5 years. I was robbed, by two guys with a gun while I lived in LA.

Well there you go. Good to hear you came out alive!
At the end of the day it all comes down to context or I should say Intention. A criminal is a criminal and will use a gun or what ever means to be so. A cop or a law abiding citizen uses a gun to stop crime. The gun is only relevant based on the level of threat. If the threat is a mean puppy it doesn't take much to over come, but an ICBM coming from another country will take more than a gun.
People can attach a lot of emotion to guns when all they do it propel a piece of lead, weather for good or bad. Some people say "Well I live in a society that doesn't require guns", you could say you live in a neighbourhood that is relatively safe compared to other neighbourhoods but criminals exist all over the world and depending where you live you may or may not want to consider a way to keep one and all safer.

That you have that stuff tells me that you ARE scared.

Would you have that stuff if you were not?

Maybe he just likes to put holes in paper silhouettes?

Perhaps he is a fan of loud popping sounds?

Nope.

41 years old, lived all over this nation, was in the military and went to war.

Never, EVER "needed" a gun.

Is shooting in a competition "needing" or "wanting"?

Non sequitur.

He posted that he was not "scared", and posted big bad pictures of his big bad guns.

I do not think that I will die of a flood, therefore, I am not wearing a life preserver right now.

If somebody states that they are not "afraid", yet posts pictures of 1,000's of dollars of investment in self-protection devices, I would question the utility they are getting out of their investment, UNLESS they are afraid. Then the investment looks to be sound.

I was at the gun shop, and was going to buy that EXACT bevy of guns, but the dood behind the counter would not sell. He said that I already had a big enough penis, and sent me out the door. I guess I got lucky or something.

Why would you show your penis to a guy at a gun store? Seems odd....

Don't start the homoerotic crap.

This subject reminds me of South Park. An issue comes up and the masses start in with the rabble rabble. Happens almost every episode.

Oh brother.

Go read the federalist papers and learn something about this country or STFU.

Better yet, just STFU if you don't like guns. Nobody else cares.
