Anyone suffer from celiac disease? My wife has recently been diagnosed with it, and it's good to finally be able to get some answers. She functions pretty well with it thus far, but one thing that she is really missing is a convenient BBQ sauce to take to picnics, etc., without having to make one from scratch. Anyone know of a good gluten-free BBQ available at the local grocery?

Hey alp, my girlfriends 3 sisters all have celiac disease. Took a while to figure it out, and they had lots of health problems till they did, but they are doing much better now. I know how much of a struggle it can be. Now that you have it figured out, the adjustment to eating (er, not eating) certain foods is kind of the easy part.

I'll find out from her where you can get some good stuff and pm it to you. Maybe remind me if I forget. Thing is, there are lots of places to get sauces, but only a few of them actually taste good. You might want to start by checking out the "Newman's Own" company. I know they make a ton of gluten free sauces. Also, Trader Joe's has an entire section of gluten free foods as well.

More and more folks are getting diagnosed with celiac, and because of that more and more options for good food open up everyday.

I found out I was gluten intolerant last year. Found out that sweet baby rays is gluten free. As it was, it was my fav, so a no brainer.

Its really not a big deal. And it did help with a lot of problems I was having to remove it from my diet. Good luck.

She's a Type 1 diabetic also, so her food choices are even more limited than normal.....

The docs are thinking that this is what made her diabetes seem to be "brittle", she has had a very hard time regulating her blood sugars, even with diligent carb counting, etc. From the sounds of it, the celiac works much like an infection would, causing her body to release sugars even if she hadn't eaten any carbs.

She was diagnosed with celiac about a month ago, and just in that time the cutting out of gluten has made her feel better in every way. When she does accidentally eat something with gluten (some breakfast sausage the other day that she didn't think about the "maple flavoring") she feels pretty rotten for a whole day. She seems to be very sensitive right now, hopefully as she cleanses things it won't be quite so bad for a small mistake.
