Hi,

Yesterday and today were my first 2 days at the track and the 4th and 5th ride on my dirt bike. I am happy because at first on Saturday I was going very very slow and just rolling all of the jumps. By the end of the day today, I cleared a 35 foot table top and 2 of the doubles on the track. I tried to clear a bigger double and cased my back tire and barely managed to avoid a wreck because I kinda got bucked when I landed into the face. Today my legs were sore so everybody told me I sit down way too much but it hurt to ride standing so I kinda had to. I also had a hard time keeping the bike in the powerband and using too high of a gear. I just feel like in a higher gear, I am way more smooth (on jumps especially) and I feel uncomfortable for some reason reving the RPMs too high, is this easy to do?

My question is, after riding for a few hours there is black oil running out from the silencer and trailing down the bottom of the silencer and dripping on the swingarm and chain. Is this because I am not reving it high enough? I am running 30:1 gas:oil mixture.

Thanks

Glad you finally made it to the track. Thats normal for a 2 stroke but 30 to 1 is a little rich. You can run 40 or 50 to 1, depending on the oil you use.

Ya I am glad too.

I use Lucas high performance 2-cycle oil. The owners manual says 32:1 but I spilled some gasoline filling up the can and forgot to put in a little extra gas to make up for the spilled gas so it is like 30:1 now.

Just wondering though,

unfortanatly my parents don't ride and won't ride (huge disadvantage) so I had a hard time getting the bike let alone being able to ride it. The track is like 35 minutes from our house and I got to go last weekend because my friend came up from st george, utah to ride which he doesn't do often and the guy who took him invited me. I have like three friends who ride dirt bikes and they go like once evry 5 weeks and usually just go wit their parents. I am trying to find ways were I can get to the track every weekend to every other weekend and this guy goes often to the track and takes his kid.

What do you guys think are good ideas so I can go riding more often than I do? I tried hard to help the guy out unloading and loading and stuff just so he would invite me back but that was like the first time I met him so... And do most tracks you have to be with an adult to go? I was thinkin maybe just me and a friend could get dropped off for a few hours.

Until you are 18 you will need a responsible adult to go with you just in case you happen to get hurt.A note from your parents authorizing medical treatment should be in the hands of whoever takes you to the track. Maybe work out a deal with your friends parents and your parents to take turns driving you all to the track. Be creative! I know you really want to ride so make it happen!

Agreed 100% with what Friday said. Along with the note from your parents, make sure you have your medical insurance card on you just in case something happens.

Some tracks around here require a minor release signed by both parents prior to riding there as well. I am not sure how your tracks operate and it sounds like this one is pretty relaxed, but if you start riding at other places, check the track website beforehand to make sure youre OK.

Also, practice riding in a standing position as much as possible, only sitting in the corners. Grip the bike with your knees, and it will also allow you to ride with a looser grip at the bars, helping to keep your arms from pumping up. Most importantly, have fun.
