Alright well i'm not new to riding or anything and i know the difference between a 125 and the 250 capabilities. I have been riding my rm124 for over 4 years now and absolutely love it. and I'm a decent rider. Last season i entered a few local races and placed decently well for the only person in the 250 class with a smoker. Now don't get me wrong i'm a die hard 2 stroke fan. But i'm beginning to really like what the 4 stroke brings to the table when strictly racing and i found a pretty damn good deal on a raced prepped 250f which was one of our local pro's last year's race bike so theres aftermarket suspension full racing pipe so on so on. But i'm still having a tough time letting go of my 125 it was the first bike i learned to ride on and i love the sound and thrill of the 2 strokes but i find for racing is just too much work for me because i'm no james stewart. So will i really be dissappointed when i step on a 250f from a 125 from a strict motocross racing view?

A 250 f would be good if you are planning to race more, but I would stay away from a local pro's used bike. A pro's bike will get a lot of really hard use in a season.

250f s are great bikes, get a efi bike if you can!, rule of thumb, i would buy a pro s race bike, not his practice bike!

If you can, keep your RM125 and go get a 250f, then you can have the best of both worlds.

125 are the most fun bike to ride for sure!

yeah i love my 125 to death just i'm not skilled enough to ride a 125 really really fast. and i want to step up to a 250f but thanks alot for the answers guys i think i'm gonna stick with the 250f cause i plan on racing the whole amateur schedule this year and if i really don't like the 4 strokes i can sell off the bike for the same price i'm sure and pick up another 125 for dirt cheap.

its a used bike from a local pro and im getting a wicked deal on it and my budget is really tight since im still going through school and im paying for the bike out of my own pocket and to me a raced tuned mx bike from 08' could still compete with a stock 2010 2011 efi bike in the amateur classes.

woah there killer! what class are you racing? IMO if you are a weekend warrior, i would stick with the smoker. you said it yourself. "tight budget". the 125 will be SO much cheaper to maintain. If you are running A class its one thing, but if C or D? just does not make sense to me. 2 stroke will do you good man.

i rode four strokes all my life till a year ago i switched from a crf250 to a sx125... never going back to valve adjustment. sx = (about) 205lbs. crf = 230lbs. two strokes are the way to go. my riding (esp cornering) has improved by double since riding a smoker.

Im not trying to be rude but makes you think you will be faster on a 250f.
